All this talk of vitamins for hair, I’m wondering do they really help grow your hair and if so have you received more growth with them or without them? I ask because when I was taking Biotin it did not do anything for my hair whatsoever. Also what kinds does everyone use, maybe it's because I had the wrong kind???:(

i did not notice any difference with my hair and vitamins. i have tried ultranourish(gnc), silica (gnc), and hair skin and nails (vitamin shoppe). i really took my vitamins everday.

From reading the experiences of ladies here, it seems like they work when we are deficient in that vitamin. When we are getting it anyway with our regular diet, we don't notice much of a difference.

The ultranourish hair actually made me feel sick. I was taking it with a multivitamin and other things and feel much better now that I am not taking it anymore. I am also a lot more thirsty now that I am taking vitamins. I think that there are other things that will make your hair grow, like being gentle with your hair, conditioning etc. I am worried about the adverse effects of taking too many vitamins.

I've noticed a difference, speaking strictly based on my own hair experience. I know that my hair became much thicker after taking 1,000mgs of Pantothenic Acid on a daily basis. I've also had success with Viviscal, which has boosted my normally snail's pace monthly rate. :yep: But I agree that diet has a lot to do with the impact vitamins have.

I take the UltraNourishair in addition to a multi that I'd been taking previously. I've seen no increase in my growth rate, but I have seen a change in the texture of my new growth (from the MSM I presume). I'll continue to take them because the softer new growth has made it possible for me to extend my relaxers.

i have tried Horsetail 500mcg for about 2 moonths. My nails grew so fast and so strong. As far as my hair is concerned I am not quite sure about the quick grow but i felt the ng were very strong.
But definetely the nails were strong and long.

Cinnabun,

THEY WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I think like everything else about your hair, Your regime or Your Products You have to see what works for you. And have patience, it wont happen over night.
At the moment I am 11 weeks post relaxer and have well over 2 inches of newgrowth never in my life have I seen so much growth. The fact that I am looking after my hair externally with a regime is also helping as I am retaining my length and not breaking as fast as I am growing. Maybe I did have fast growing hair before the vitamins but the breakage and bad methods made it hard to tell.
Whatever it is I am not going to stop taking them untill I get my goal length,
I started taking them Nov 04 and have changed and added various vitamins.

My regime is taken from Bargello regime

Vitamins:
GNC Hair and Vitamins x 2
GNC Amino 1500 x 6
10 mg Biotin x 2
1000mcg MSM x 2
1000mcg Evening Primrose} Changed to 1000mg Flaxseed Oil Cod Liver Oil x1
1000mcg Flaxseed Oil}
500mcg Silica

I know its insane but after a while and when you see the results it becomes second nature :)

I agree. My hair growth didn't change, but I did notice a more softer texture (less course) in my hair. I'm going to get back on these ASAP. :)

I take most of those minus the Amino Acid, maybe that's what I'm missing to really boost my growth.

Rabia,

I would recommend you add the Amino Acid, It basically lots of protein in a tablet. I dont get a balanced diet and I cant stand those protein shakes.
Give it a try, Hair is made of protein I have read. It should help

Kizzy

I think a multivitamin helps in general. Hair vitamins help because biotin accelerates growth of hair and nails. Its water soluble so I don't worry about a vitamin having like 300% of the daily value...whatever the body doesn't absorb, you pee out anyway! Its fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K that are stored in excess in the body and are toxic/harmful in larger than normal amounts. I take 5 types of vitamins a day:
1.Flaxseed Oil softgels 1000mg x 1
2.Calcium w/Vitamin D 600mg x 2
3.GNC Ultra Nourishair x 1*
4.Centrum Multivitamin w/Lycopene x 1
5.Folic Acid 1 mg x 1

*Before I discovered the GNC Ultra Nourishair, I took 800 mcg tablets of biotin once a day for the past year and a half. Since starting these at the end of Jan, I think they've helped tremendously with growth and a lot less shedding. I always had the growth from the biotin and Centrum (for the past year plus), but there seems to be an extra boost. I'm thinking of taking alfalfa for the health benefits. I take folic acid for anemia (the 1 mg amount is by prescription only, because 400 mcg is 100% of the daily value). I take calcium for my bones, not necessarily my hair! ;)
