Do Guys Prefer Women to be Natural, Weaved OR Relaxed?

Men don't know what they like till we tell 'em. Any hair do is fair game.

Honestly hair is a mystery to most of them & ultimately they end up sayin "as long as she got hair on her head...." some men don't even care if you have hair or not.
 
We had My Wife and Kids on in the lobby at my job last night and the security guard said he didn't like Jay's hair (she had it curly) I think he said it looked wild. He said he loved it when they styled her hair straight though, she looked "so much better". But when first I came with my hair curly he said, "you can't keep wearing your hair like that, you are too cute" (He's seen my hair straight too) Jay's curls are longer and smaller than mine (usually) If he catches me with a wash and go then my curls are still shorter than her's but they are about the same width. He also complains about when his wife wears her hair curly. He showed me a picture of her with a WAVY weave and he said he hated it. Then showed me a picture of her with her straight hair and said she looked like a totally different person. I just didn't see it.

They just don't know what they want.

Update: Just asked him, he said Jay's hair looks like a poodle when curly (I used to say my hair looked like a sheep when I wore it curly. In his defense that was when I was doing wash and gos, had more heat damage, I wasn't applying products properly, nor was I applying the proper products. I would not say that my hair has looked like a sheep since he has seen my curls) He also said it looked too bushy. Like he could shape and trim it with hedge clippers. When he said that I told him that I want my hair to be huge! (I can never get my front curls to fall backwards towards my crown, instead they always fall onto my forehead) He just looked at me kind of funny and said he's want to see it.

All men aren't the same. Generally I think men prefer real hair, or enough real hair out so they can play with it.

Apart from that theres a sliding scale from neutral to absolute hatred. I doubt that many men hate it that much since many of the celebrities they want to marry (both caucasion and black) wear at least partial weaves.:yawn:

My SO prefers my weave to any awkward, growing out, or set back stage I might have lol:lol:. When I asked him about my protective styling he said he doesn't care as his main priority is that I look good when I go out with him:rolleyes:. Even though he can't get all up in my hair, he'd rather I looked glam in the meantime and revealed when I really have something to work with. I feel the same. We've been together 9 months, or so and he's never brought my hair up and he's a pretty outspoken type. Only thing he's banned is blonde weave/wigs lol. I choose my hair pretty carefully though to match my features, realistic length etc..

He aint black. Not sure if that makes a difference. I think Black men tend to be fatigued with bad weaves in particular though.
 
Hmm...when we say guys..do we mean average American black men? If so, I'm going to say relaxed/straight looking hair first, weave second and natural third.

I know more and more of us are going natural and I think in time, our comfort with our own hair will help to change our beauty "standards", but I am in the South and brothas still break their necks to holla at chicks with straight looking hair, whether its their own or weave.

I didn't like those fake looking curls on Tisha Campbell either. She did look like a poodle :look:.

Now, if she wore her "natural afro textured kinks/curls/naps/beedeebeads/insertWhateverYouWant" I'm sure she would have looked 100000% better :yep:
 
I guess every guy is different, but from what I've heard from MOST men is that they prefer women with their own NATURAL hair. That may not mean "natural", it just means that they don't typically like weaves, wigs, etc. :nono:

This preference tends to span from men of all races too by the way....black, white, hispanic, asian, etc. :yep:

But at the same TIME however, I think that the "natural" vs. "fake" hair argument is the same one as the "makeup" vs. "no makeup" argument. :look: Men can swear up and down that they don't like their women to wear "makeup", but at the same time they have crushes on female celebrites who wear a TON of makeup all day long. :rolleyes: Not to mention, when a woman spruces herself up and puts on some makeup for a nice night out, the man LOVES her look. :look:

So, I think it's the same thing. I think men don't want to know that you're wearing makeup (they want it to look "natural" in other words :rolleyes:), and the same goes with fake hair..... If you want to wear fake hair, make sure it looks as NATURAL as possible. :look: Honestly, many men may SAY they prefer women with thier OWN hair, but I still see them drooling over the Beyonce's and the Naomi Campbell's of the world. :huh: And when I have stepped out with a nice natural looking wig/weave, I get soooo many men staring and complimenting me. I'm just saying.....:look:


So, at the end of the day, I say.....rock what mother nature gave you. I think MOST people look their best with their OWN hair honestly. And if it can be chemical-free, then that's an added bonus. :yep: But if you're GOING to wear fake hair, just make sure it looks like it's real. :look: Most men can't even tell the difference. Heck, some WOMEN can't even tell sometimes! lol :giggle:

GIRL!!!!! I'm from New York but I live in Atlanta and the men down here LOVE some long straight hair on a girl.

But that's what I was telling the security guard at my job that he's been conditioned to like straight hair. I always find it funny that Black men think Black women with curly hair is different or exotic as if we are born with our hair bone straight. When in reality it's not exotic, it's how our hair grows from our head. Relaxing our hair is what was different.
 
I dont know...I have had several men will come up to me just to tell me they like my hair. They often say stuff like " you just dont see that these days!"

Some me like straight, some men like natural, and some men even like weave. *shrug*

Men definitely without a question prefer real but they mostly prefer pretty. If it looks good they're usually down with it real or fake.

She was telling her boyfriend that she might wear her real hair out for a while just to warn him in advance. He didn't want her to do it but she did it anyway and went to his house. Her hair was neck length but it was the healthiest it had ever been. He dumped her on the spot when he saw her hair.
We were young like 18-19 so didn't really have any advice to give her. All I could say was you should give him the weave and let him have his way with it considering that's all he cares about.

It depends on the man.

I've gotten compliments from men on my hair wearing it natural, relaxed, braided up and weaved up so go figure.
 
Most men don't know every little thing that women do to be beautiful so they'll take any type of hair if it looks nice. But on the other hand I've never met a man who didn't value the real deal - i.e. a woman who rocks her own hair.
 
What I took away from that video series is that most men don't care about the particulars too much (relaxed vs. natural) as long as a woman's hair does three things:

  1. Grow out of her head and
  2. Is Long (as in hangs past her shoulders) and/or
  3. Is nice and soft to the touch.
As long as it does these three things in that order, he doesn't care what you do to it, or how you get it to do it. That is what most of those guys seemed to be saying in the video, and I asked a few of my male buddies as well (black and other races too), and they corroborated this.

Most men of all races universally do not like weave, but will take a good one over ratched, chewed up short hair of any texture. Basically, if you appeal to both their need for visuals and touch sexually (and weave, even a good one, fulfills one but not the other), they are happy. :yep:

...Because most of the time, they really don't know what they want. They'll say 'I only like THIS' But the moment a woman with 'THAT' walks by and they'll be all over her :lol:

I've seen men who swear up and down they won't date a woman with a weave, but then will drool over the woman with weave hanging past her derriere.

Conclusion: Please don't let some random male acquaintance, friend, nonhubby, nonfactor determine what you do with your hair.
 
No time to watch that video but it varies, this I know for sure. SO and I know someone and this woman's weave is HORRIBLE and SO and I were talking about it and he said her husband likes it.

I mean it's bad yall. :sad:

This is my experience talking to men about this topic. All men are different. All men have different tastes. I'm just sharing what I've been told by men in MY life:

Every man I know who I've discussed this topic with have told me that they prefer NATURAL hair. By 'natural' I mean hair growing out of the woman's head whether it be relaxed, curly, kinky, etc. They just want REAL hair that is clean and neatly styled.

Most men I know well, (especially the ones who grew up with moms/sisters who took good care of and rocked their real hair) prefer real hair on their women whether short or long.

I know quite a few men who detest unnatural-looking weave and/or wigs, my SO included. He also likes my natural hair over my relaxed/straight hair. Hence more reason for my second transition. He's even giving me a hard time about wearing half wigs while I transition. He just doesn't like any fake hair, whether it looks "real" or not. But, a girl has to do what a girl has to do. Shoot I have 6 inches of NG and relaxed ends. Love me some Sensationnel and Outre right now. LOL :)

I've heard quite a few men comment on the "fake a** weave all down her back. Why do they have to get it so long?....Why they always get the shiny, super silky fake black hair?!" Seems like weaves are okay for some men if they just look real and not fake.

All men are different indeed. My SO prefers either straightened or loosely curled natural (virgin) hair, or relaxed hair. Just his preference I guess. No different than me preferring a clean cut like a nice fade or Caesar, a bald head, or neat (and clean) locs on a man.

^^ I do agree that almost all men prefer natural hair growing from your scalp (no matter the length) than a full weave, tracks, or wigs. My SO HATES any type of extensions, and even if I get braids, it better be my own hair or he is not feeling it! :nono:

^Yup, most guys are saying that they prefer Natural meaning they don't want weaves, but I doubt they are addressing whether or not they are attracted to no weaver, no relaxer and a kinky hair pattern.

I notice some viewer responses where they were offended by some of the men's comments. I take no offense to subjects like this, I think they're real interesting. Variety is a beautiful thing and a man is entitled to his preference, just don't be disrespectful or ignorant about it. Sadly, commercialism has had a big influence in training many minds to see what's socially acceptable in the beauty of a woman, so sometimes it's a battle to get men to accept and embrace otherwise. But in my personal experience, it's a very unique and beautiful experience when you meet a man who has an attraction and appreciation for natural hair (chemical and weave free). It's hard to describe...but it's a nice and interesting encounter.
 
My bf dislikes me wearing weaves. For the reason many have stated their man likes to be able to touch their hair. My bf is of a different race and this may be a factor..idk maybe not.

Here's what I've experienced when I get my own hair done, men love the natural look of my hair. I get numerous second looks and stares. With a weave job its like just normal. I'm trying to say many men love a womens natural hair and its beauty. My bf is more willing to support my hair habits if it involves me maintaning my own hair ex: buying new products, hair gadets and stuff. I can afford my own stuff but if my babe wants to pay for it I don't say anything!!! Lol

I'm relaxed but I think women who hair isn't relaxed is just as attractive. :)

I agree

I think they are saying that they want a girl with real hair. When I met my DH I had relaxed hair. Men don't like not being able to touch our hair or have it be off limits. Yes some women look cute with weaves and wigs (99% of the ones I see on the street look a hot mess) and these men aren't going to stop talking to a pretty woman that just happens to have fake hair. They have to tell the truth LOL Its about preference though and being able to touch hair without getting their heads chopped off :grin:
 
So true, most of those dudes would pick up a girl in a minute regardless of whether she had her own hair our or a weave.
Preference that a girl be natural, maybe...mandatory that she be natural, I don't buy that. I don't think guys hate weaves to that degree, despite what they say.
