Do any of you leave a relaxer on longer than the time allowed on the instructions

I need more than 15 minutes to do my head. Also the stylist never look at the time. They just look to see if your hair is straight or not.

I used to do that and ended up with overprocessed, breaking hair after awhile. I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't relax mine straight, but I do leave it on longer than the instructions say. My hair is very resistant. However, before that, I have done numerous strand tests and know that my hair will not get straight with that amount of time.

Yes, I do leave the relaxer on my head longer than the instructions suggest. My hair is resistent and needs to be on my head for 30min when using my Soft n Beautiful Regular. I have been using this stuff for years...but know I now not overprocess my hair like I was doing before LHCF. HTH

Vikkisecret..What's the processing time for Soft and Beautiful? This sounds like a really good no lye relaxer.

It is really good. I have been using it for like 8 years after I grew out of Just for me LoL. Anywhoo I think that the leave-in time is 15min. You should give it a try...it should be worth your while.

No. My instructions say 25 minutes but I try to take it out a bit sooner than that. I don't like bone straight hair so it works out for me.

I use Hawaian Silky Mild Lye Conditioning Jar Relaxer (pink label). And let me say that it is the BOMB!!

I leave this on for 25 minutes (includes the 15 minutes for the application).

I used to use soft n' beautiful as one of the no lye relaxers I used a long time ago.....we're talking the 80's. That and Gentle Treatment were my relaxers of choice. I always deep conditioned and relaxed every 12 weeks or so, and did not have a problem with breakage. My hair frequently grew past bra strap and probably would have gotten even longer if I'd have let it. It did make my hair/scalp dry, but I did not realize how dry until I started using lye relaxers. IF I was going to use a no lye relaxer again, it would be either Soft n' Beautiful or Gentle Treatment.

I honestly never look at the time either, I make sure my hair is as straight as I want it (I dont relax bone straight) and then I rinse/wash.

sugaplum, I've been thinking of getting the Hawaii silky lye (if I switch to lye) but read some good and bad reviews. I'm torn but I love the fact that the processing time is up to 25 mins.

Curlycrly, see this is my problem. Right now I have a lot of dryness with no lye. I don't know if I should switch to lye. So basically I'm trying to see if I have any better options with no lye before giving up. What lye relaxer do you use now?

Babygurl, I'm glad you answered because I bought some Profectiv about 10 weeks ago but I didn't try it because of the processing time so it's just been sitting in my beauty salon closet (minus the neutralizing shampoo). I love that shampoo. I just bought a big bottle yesterday.
