Ladies, I'm sorry but I am so hating Kpac right now. I paid 25 bucks for it and I regret. I read so much good stuff on this and I bought it yesterday. Clarified this morning and applied with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes with no heat (because heat gives me a tangle mess). I expected that wonderful softness that some ladies raved about and instead it felt dry and tangled. I took about 35 minutes in the shower trying to get my hair back it's softness and a couple of broken hairs. I even had to give myself with quick wash with CON to help untangle

HUH......I don't know what went wrong. I guess I will stick with Emergencee that works good for me....

I'm sorry to hear this. IMO, it sounds like you left it on way longer than necessary and my favorite question: When was the last time you clarified your hair?

In the past, I also suffered hard, tangled, dry, barbed wire hair following past protein treatments with Aubrey Organics GPB, Clairol Renewal hydration therapy intensive treatment, and Motions silk protein conditioner.

My type 3 friends with coarse hair don't have this problem. My hair is fine, relaxed, and type 4b.

The only one mild enough for me is Rusk calm 60 second hair revive conditioner. It moisturizers too.

Sorry to hear that K-Pac didn't work for you. Personally, I think you left it on much too long. K-Pac is pretty intense and Joico recommends using it for only 5 minutes without heat. This isn't a moisturizing conditioner where you can leave it on as long as you want without adverse effects.

Protein makes hair hard and if left on too long the hair would be down right crunchy. I have never left K-pac on for longer than 15 minutes without heat and always follow with a moisturizing conditioner.

Miosy,

I know you paid a pretty penny for it

So I say give it another try in maybe a month or so after a good clarifying shampoo. Try leaving it in for 5-10 minutes (no heat) and following it with a moisturizing conditioner might make your results better.

Don't give up on it so soon though since it was $$$$

Personally, i never expect softness from joico k-pak. i use it for strengthening purposes because it is a reconstructer. And I always follow up with Humecto. I do K-pak for 15 minutes under my heating cap, and I do Keracare Humecto for another 15 minutes under my heating cap and my hair is soft at the end.

Next time, I would follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. (i think why some people don't follow up is because they literally leave the conditioner in for 5 minutes, when i apply it for a longer time and with heat i feel that the conditioner is really penetrating my shaft, and hence i need a moisturizing conditioner to counter the effects of the hydrolozed human hair keratin and bring back the moisture balance in my hair)

As Joico K-Pak is a protein reconstructor, it is not a moisturizing conditioning treatment. I used this product last week for the second time (I apply protein treatments every four to six weeks, as needed). I shampooed with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo to clarify, then applied the Joico K-Pak. I don't use heat but I do wear a plastic cap during the treatment. The instructions say to leave on for five minutes, but I actually left the product on for approx. ten minutes. I rinsed out, and then applied a deep penetrating moisturizing treatment. I wore a plastic cap, and sat under the hood dryer for approx. 30 minutes. My hair was strong and soft, with good elasticity.

I have used the Joico K-Pak twice so far. Howevr, the first time *I* used it, I was less than impressed. Once I learned how to use it properly ( following with a moisturizing treatment), I was really pleased with the results.

I am at 18weeks post relaxer and have being using kpac weekly now for a month. What I do is apply it to four sections of my shampooed hair and comb out each section after it's application, braid and leave the hair alone for approximately 10mins. I follow with a rinse and a moisturizing conditioner (hated elasta qp, trying out Clairol Renewal 5x conditionner for colored/permed hair recommended by meg.) as deep conditioner, rinse out and comb in the shower. Voila, manageable new growth and unbelievable soft hair for another week. I've also noticed less shedding.

I just purchased the kpac yesterday thanks for great tips
posted I will not leave it on no longer than 10 minutes
for my first use and I will follow with a moisturizing conditioner.

I'm willing to bet that it's because you clarified first. I always experienced that result after I clarified and then applied a protein treatment. The end result is way more protein deposited in my hair making it harder than had I not clarified.

I would try it again later on after you work on putting back more moisture into your hair.

Lesson learned for me though. Never clarify and use protein right behind it. Always deep conditioning moisture....well that's for me anyway.
