Wet hair is currently moisturized. But with water alone 3 things usually happen...we dry most of the water off ourselves, the hair then absorbs some of what's left (depending on porosity) and the rest evaporates/dries. So a waterbased product formulated to keep the moisture (not evaporate) works best in conjunction with water, and the moisture is better retained after being sealed with a non-waterbased product.
Hair that is moisturized feels pliable, flexible and overall manageable. Water alone doesn't provide this for very long.
My sisnlaw says if u can hear your hair when u touch it, then it could use some moisture. I never hear anythg when its wet. When its dry (meang not wet) but moist i hear nothg, but at some point it will become dried out enough to make some noise. My goal is to moisturize my hair before i can hear it... And yes, seal it too.
Moisturized hair is hair that has absorbed moisture and is therefore soft. Wet hair is not necessarily moisturized hair. Low porosity hair could be as wet as can be and be as hard as straw because the water just sits on it. This is what divachyk and I were discussing w/r/t why S Curl may not make low porosity hair feel moisturized until after you baggy and therefore force the moisture to penetrate the strands.
I don't use moisturizer when my hair is twisted or braided (which it has been since 2009) but when I'm good, I baggy and condition twice a week and my hair stays soft and therefore moisturized IMO even though it doesn't feel cool to the touch. You can get an idea of its state in this clip where I'm finger combing. My hair has nothing on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5iU4NgNGgI
When I am using S Curl and my hair is combed out, it does feel cool to the touch even though it doesn't feel wet. And yes it is usually very soft w/o being sticky.
I believe when hair is well moisturized, it also has good elasticity and will take up its natural shape if it isn't manipulated but moisturized with a water-based product. Until I discovered DCing, I had no idea my hair was naturally made of coils. I manipulate it in braids or twists so the coils are not always there, but if I washed it and left it alone, it'd form uniform coils all over. The coils are so obvious at the ends of my twists. This was also confirmed a few years ago when some product that was supposed to improve hair moisture (I forget the name but it might have started with Diva-) had someone shocked to see her type 4 hair--previously believed to have no pattern--turn into a mass of beautiful coils. My mom's hair in the S Curl thread is another example of how hair
that was dry like straw and looked shapeless turned into a beautiful 'fro of nice circles once I introduced her to real moisture, instead of grease.
Of course if you have damaged hair this^^ may not happen as your hair will not be able to retain the moisture due to being porous so the softness may be short-lived.
