Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Have there been any products, stlying tools, supplements, etc. that you didn't like at first and put away, but then tried again on a whim and loved? Some things have to be used a certain way to really get the full benefit. Also, many people read product reviews for recommendations on what to buy, and maybe a product has been given a bad review after only one use. I'll start first:

New Image Thermal Active Styler
*hated then- hair felt weird after flat ironing
*love it now - great for rollersets; hair is soft and bouncy and lasts for days (darn you BRH

)

Protectiv Megarowth
*hated it then - too thick and made hair heavy; didn't absorb well into hair
*love it now - used less and only on hair after washing; great for softening newgrowth

Anyone else?

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Im gonna give the Aveda Humectant another try because when I used it on air-dried hair to flat iron, it felt dry yet greasy.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I hated Africa's Best Olive Oil & Clove Therapy but when I added it to CPR I loved it.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Aveda Brilliant Styling Creme. I intially brought it(over 2 years ago) when my hair was damaged...thinking I didn't have the right products(I know now no amount of product can fix damaged hair). I hung onto it because it has a great smell. It also supposed to work well on hair that heat is being applied to. Well I used it last week for a dry set and it worked well. Right now I'm trying it mixed with a little Loreal Intense Smooth anti-frizz serum on a wet set for a seting lotion. My hair is drying as I type...but I can tell already I'm going to like the way it will turn out.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Olive oil. Before, it used to just sit on top of my hair and didn't appear to do anything but my hair was very damaged at the time. As Sweetcocoa said, no amount of product can fix damaged hair. Strangely enough, once my hair got healthy, it took to olive oil and I could understand what all the fuss was about. Now I can't imagine not using it.

The other product is Mizani Moisturfuse (sp?), for the same reasons as above ... although there are other conditioners I prefer.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I would say Elasta QP mango butter, when my hair was more damaged I hated this, but now it leaves my hair so soft and shiny, second would be Motion's Lavish conditioning shampoo.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Gigi, I'm glad you like the New Image now. It does work very well on rollarset hair. I'm so glad I bought a few bottles before they all vanished!

I didn't like Spectrum's coconut oil at first but now love it. I didn't use it correctly at first, putting on too much but now I use it a bit differently for pre shampoo treatments and like it for hair ends alot.

I didn't like Elucence Moisture Balance Conditioner for a while at first but do now. Its a great detangler and one of the best conditioners for conditioner washes.

I can't think of anything else. The rest of the things I didn't like I tried a good 2 or 3 x max and then gave them away or trashed em

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Joyous I LOVE the Africa's Best Olive Oil & Clove Therapy I put this on my hair after the Megagrowth to stop that 'hard' dry feeling and lock the moisture in. It smells so good.

Elasta QP DPR 11 Deep conditioner.

I just never used enough, it's like a cholesterol conditioner. I love it now.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I disliked the Elucence MB conditioner, it's now one of my staples.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I hated Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner when I first tried it (with heat). I followed the directions (NO HEAT), and now I can't live without this! I also tried Kenra Intensive Emolient Treatment with heat, and I hated it! Tried it without heat, and it worked a lot better.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Nexxus Humectress-its alright but i wish i had the receipt so i could go get my 9 dollars back. I could really live without it

Pantene S&S- only works for me every few weeks

Citre Shine curl boosting gel-been using it for a week and I cant imagine being without

Smooth n Shine Polisher..I thnk i got a tainted bottle cause everytime I use my friend's it softens better and theyre the same product

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

gvsugirl,
Tell us about the Cirte Shine Curl Boosting Gel...ingredients? How do u wear your hair when using? It is moisturizing? Do tell...

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Sure thing. I'll type up the ingredients when I get home :-). as far as the styles, I've been using it along with pantene leave in to just slick my hair back into two braids and it keeps the frizzies away and my hair doesnt dry into a big puff like usual, and my hair is soft all the way to the ends for once. I also get mini waves in addition to the ones I get with the braids. Also it's alcohol free

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

L'oreal Nature's therapy mega moisture nurturing creme--and for 11.99 a jar, I sure am glad I loved it the second time around!

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I absolutley hated both Aussie Moist conditioner and Suave Coconut conditioner. When I first tried them for conditioner washes they left my hair tangled and hard. Now my hair gets so soft and detangled when I use them.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Just a tip. I usually test new products on my hair when it has been cleaned thouroughly with no residue on my hair at all or within the same week as a touch up. My hair acts so crazy with new growth there really isn't any point to me testing any product out during this 'delicate' time for my hair.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Qvsugirl, please post the ingredients for the Citrishine in a separate post. That line of prodructs is pretty widespread here. Thanks.

BTW, I meant "darn you ValleyGirl" in the above post. OOPs BRH.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

The Suave Humectant. The first couple of times, I hated it. But after a while it seemed okay for CO washes.

I am HOPING the LUST is better the second time around, cause I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. I paid $8 for that small jar and I expected fireworks!!

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Kerastase Masquintense

Hated it the first time I used it... Used it with heat, then did a roller set and my hair came out TOO soft, if that makes any sense...

Used it a second time doing a twist-out... AWESOME, just AWESOME!!

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Kenra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. It was weird because the first time I tried it I did not like it AT ALL.
nono.gif
My sister had the same bad first experience using Kenra. Both our heads of hair felt rough and dry. Now, I would just about cry if I didn't have it, because it adds more moisture to my hair than anything else I have tried.

Funny thing is that I really didn't use it any differently the second time. ...

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

aveeda sap mos, hated it kinda likin' it now

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I didn't hate it, just didn't use my Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade because I didn't know how to apply it.

I love it now, especially after applying my leave-in and any other oils. It really seals in the moisture well while I'm air-drying my hair and somewhat prevents humidity from frizzing up my hair too much after it's dry. It smells good too.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Keracare Silken Seal (Serum). Initially, I used it on dry hair (yuck!!!). But, it is an outstanding product on wet hair.

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

I used to loathe Suave Aloe gel and now that I learn that I need to mix it with a little water to apply it I LOVES it!!!

I also use to dislike serums but now that I have started using them for sets and twists I love them - especially on my ends!!!

Also is that New Image Thermal heat protectent a spray??? Where do you get??

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

L'Anza Moisture Treatment. This is one of those products that take several uses before producing good results. After using it exclusively for a while, my hair became so soft and hydrated, I didn't even need a leave-in conditioner. I was ready to toss this, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite conditioners!

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Lust, I totally hated it when I used it as a conditioner then rinsed it out like thae directions stated. Then I tried leaving it as a leave-in and I fell in love.

No, Ballet Bun; I rinsed it out both times... the only difference was that I used it WITH heat the first time and WITHOUT heat the second...

Re: Didn\'t like it at first, but now you love it?

Elasta QP Recovery - it was a disaster on my rollerset. Works great for airdrying.
