After so much research and soaking up all the knowledge from so many people, I am SERIOUSLY considering going natural. I never really knew how to take care of my natural hair, but after being here and seeing so many beautiful women successfully grow out their hair to WL...I am pretty convinced. Growing up my hair was always pretty soft, and had a nice texture, but I guess with growing up and trying to "be grown" i ruined and damaged my hair and didnt appreciate my texture and length then. Finally after all those years of torture, I am finally seeing that beautiful texture I once had and am dreading the fact of having to relax it 5 months from now. Anyone else feel this way?:crying3:

I have been thinking about it every since I was old enough to relax my own hair. I always tried to find better ways to take care of my relaxed hair because it was so high maintenance. I honestly believed I had to relax my hair, as if it was as simple as taking a bath or getting a checkup at the dentist. Something I had to alter everytime it came back, like some sort of medicine-resistant rash or something. I was raised to believe that only mixed people can have "good hair" and that I am nappy headed and need a perm every 4 weeks because Im African. However, overtime I have seen my NG and wondered if I could handle more than an inch of it by stretching my relaxers to 6 weeks instead of 4, and after that I wanted to see if I could handle more.

I want to see what God intended to see when he created me. Not some false image printed on a box of harsh chemicals that other people expect me to be. How can I have an identity of my own if I am perpetuating a process that takes away my identity in the first place?

So the answer is yes and no:
Being a member of LHCF did not make me want go natural (I made that decision on my own overtime) but it did make it easier for me to decide to transition. It makes me want to go natural even more than I did before after reading everyones' stories, though. I am very glad I have made it as far as I have. I have 3 inches of NG that is healther than any of my relaxed hair has ever been, and I cannot wait until it is long enough to rid myself of all of the damage by doing a BC. I have to say that I've really had a sense of relief over me ever since I threw out my relaxer and vowed never to touch it again. It really is a like drug in a way.

Yes, I went natural because of LHCF. I had thought about it off and on for years but if it weren't for LHCF I think I would still be relaxing my hair. I am very grateful to LHCF.

Yes... I had always been interested but couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm sure all the beautiful heads here and the wealth of knowledge are what made me decide to go for it.

I decided to go natural because I was tired of fighting against my natural curl. Once I accepted and embraced my natural hair, I loved it.

im relaxed now. but when I first got here I wasn't wearing a relaxer. I grew it out about 2 years b4 I came here. But I never wore natural styles. I either wore braids or got it pressed. When i came to the site I saw all the naturals here and decided I wanted to start wearing natural styles.

No I went natural b/c I couldn't afford a good relaxer :look:. But it certainly has helped me with my journey adn has challenged me to take better care of my hair, and my hair is grateful I ever found this site.:yep:

I decided to transition to natural because my hair basically told me it was sick and tired of being relaxed. I couldn't retain lenght, it was thin and my relaxer didn't last long; I also got tired of getting over processed. I found LHCF while I was transitioning.

Nope. It was actually the opposite for me. I joined JHCF becuase I was natural. I joined this site because I could get good info about natural care and natural styles without the drama over flat ironing my hair. I will continue to flat iron when I want to, but I have added more natural styles thanks to this site.

Thanks for so many replies..I am still considering this, because it is a big step and I have to make sure that i wont slack on taking care of my hair. Now I have heard of a few naturals using Mrs. Jessies curly hair pudding. How does this help? Does it make your hair softer and your natural taxtures more visible, or does it help curl your hair like a shake and go?

it gave me the extra push, but i honestly think i would have gone natural either way. before i came here, i had already cut down on heat use and relaxed only once a year, and studying healthier hair care methods.

Yes.
LHCF gave me knowledge of how to take care of my relaxed hair.
LHCF women finally me realise that, although it can get long and pretty, it will never look as good and be as thick relaxed as some of the members in here.
I almost transitioned back in 05 with Peachtree and Hairlove but I wasn't ready:wallbash:.
After extensive fotki stalking I am ready.
Meeting Flowerhair pushed me over the edge.

Imma do it this time!

I must say, some of y'all get on my nerve but if I have to lurk my way through it, this time, I'm going to do it.

Thanks!

Did you go natural because of LHCF?
Yep. If I had never found LHCF, I wouldn't have gone natural or even considered it. I thought ALL Black women relaxed their hair. Once I found out that there were women wearing their hair without those chemicals, I was like "I can do that too." :yep:

Yes, definitely a major influence, but I also got sick of going to stylists for trims and getting cuts and having to pay out all that money for a relaxer. I also hated relaxing my own hair.

Yes i went natural the first time because of LHCF, then i relaxed it after my family had a fit, only to go back natural after meeting My Nikko's cousin, Ms Jadu who encouraged me to go natural :yep:

yes..., the lovely naturals on the board made me envious and curious to see if I could grow my afro to APL.

A month or so before I found LHCF is when I had got my first relaxer in almost two years, after soaking up all the info I could about natural hair health I realized that I could do much more with my natural hair than constant braiding (which jacked my hair up BAD.) LHCF has shown me the light...:yep:

Now I wish that I will wake up one day and these relaxed ends will magically disappear :look:

JUST DO IT !!! I'm 5 months into my transition
and I did decide to go natural because of LHCF.
It is a personal challenge as well, I've heard a lot
of stories about relapses, but knowing that people
here support me and are looking forward to my
progress makes me feel accountable for sticking
with my plan... I don't want to disappoint.

I've thought about it. Right now, I don't think I really want stretch that long.

I've gone natural for a hot minute twice in the last four years. I did one 12 month stretch to put in a Wave Nouveau. Then another to relax again. I wish I had known about LHCF back then. I might have stayed natural for good, or at least longer before I went back to chemicals. I doesn't help that I don't know how to braid, twist, bantu knot, use a flat iron or anything else like that.

I was actually transitioning before I came to LHCF, so it was already embedded in my mind that I was going natural. However, being on LHCF and gaining all the information and hair confidence that I have, I BC'ed...something thought I would never have done. I hate short hair and still do but I am learning how to work with my natural texture. Some say they found this support on other hair boards, but its because the lovely ladies here that I have been able to learn to fall in love with my hair all over again no matter the length. LHCF has made a big difference in how I care for my hair, how I view my hair, how I appreciate my hair and how I handle all the curveballs that my hair has thrown at me. So no I didn't go natural because of LHCF but I went natural sooner because of LHCF.:drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:

Yep. Though I'd been natural before, with the information on how to take care of black hair on this board i feel like i have more options of how to take care of my hair, seeing the fotki's of naturals has really helped me.

:grin:I have done ALOT of thinking about this..I have some new growth now, and the texture is so beautiful, now that I have been taking care of it, that I cannot imagine relaxing it months from now. So I have decided to become NATURAL!!!!!!! I guess i have already been trasitioning for a 1.5 months now. Just gotta keep going. I will not BC, until I have reached my current hair length naturally. (I hate that I will have to cut my hair again) but hopefully for the LAST TIME...like this..thanks for all the inspiration ladies...

No, I went natural before joining LHCF. I decided to go natural because my hair line was thinning. But finding LHCF has been a Godsend b/c I didn't know how to care for my natural hair and what I could do with it as far as styling goes.

No, I didn't go natural before LHCF, but I credit my progress to LHCF!! I have really learned a lot here!!

Be careful on those bad hair days of being on LHCF looking at members with relaxed hair. That's what messed me up but I'm starting over again.
