I'm going through a terrible phase. I just moved last month and since my hair has not been up to par...it seems soooooooooooo dry. I hate touching it. I had a great system...and now it seems to be failing miserably. What to do what to do... I don't want to have to jump on the PJ train...but I have to figure out what works... I think its the water.

Has this ever been a problem for anyone else? What do you think cause you to change?

Well since you moved - you may have a hard water problem? I don't know...

For me, I change my regimen when it seems like my products no longer have the same effect on my hair... it's usually conditioner, relaxers, moisturizers. Sometimes I have to go back to to what I used 3 years ago or so and use that for awhile.

I have many times but it's becoming more and more obvious to me that is when I am due for a clarifying wash. It brings my hair back to normal instantly. I can change up my products as much as I want but it is not effective like clarifying.

Yea, I agree...

Still trying to figure out what works best for my hair. I'm currently DCing 2 times a week with heat - alternating between protein and moisture treatments. Roller setting on my weekend wash and air drying on the week day wash. Been doing this for about 2-3 months. It's the most consistent I've been with any routine since starting my journey and I think it works for me.

But sure, I'll revamp if I happen to discover something that works better.

yeah, basically I just cut out a bunch of products/techniques/slashed up my regimine. this broke college student can't afford to be doing to much. I used to think that doing less would be horrible for my hair but it is working out surprisingly well, I'll be testing my new regimine until December.

I'm almost constantly tweaking my reggie, as I learn about new products I want to use, new styles/methods I want to try - as the length of my hair changes, I tweak my reggie.

:look: I don't think that reggies should be stagnant things, because your hair isn't stagnant - as it grows, it's going to change a little. As those ends get older and older, they are going to have slightly different requirements than the 'younger' ends did.

So, yeah I'm always revamping my reggie - adding things in, taking things out.

I moved to a harder water area too and yes after that I started to realize I had to revamp alot of things

more oils
higher end conditioner for CW'ing
and higher end leave ins

Yep--I evaluate my hair every few months and might add another product/remove a product from the mix. I was having a problem with dry/split ends and revamped my regimen to try to address it.

Yes I've made changes that have simplified my reggimen. Like once I started washing in braids that minimizes tangling. Also I eliminated henna from my reggie, it was too much work.

I strayed from my original regimen and now i'm wondering if that contributed to the breakage. I'm going back to my very first regie cause I know it works. sometimes cheap products aren't the way to go.

Yes when in braids I need moisture and I was doing to many things to my hair also I needed to add protein treatments to my reggie.

I've just lately realized that my hair loves having product in it and looks its best and sheds less when I use multiple products (i.e., leave-in conditioners, moisturizer, and oil to seal). At first I was just putting one product in after washing and wondered why my hair would feel brittle and dry once it dried. For my hair at this time the more the better, without overdoing it. It takes a while to find what's right for your hair. I still don't know if what I'm doing is right, but it seems to be working for now.

I'm with priestess- got rid of the henna treatments, tried the aloe and glycerin sprays- i was a sticky mess- i was co washing like every other day- my hair started getting stiff -i guess i was getting build up quickly. so i stopped doing things that worked for other people and just stuck with what worked for me- JOICO! with heat to DC. the only thing I will tweak is adding roller setting and wrapping my hair.

Yup, from about two weeks ago I changed to washing my hair 1x every two weeks and moisturising and oiling the heck out of it in between. I just relocated and I'm told that the water here makes your hair dry and snaps it off so it's either limit the number of times I wash it or buy loads of bottled water to keep up the 2x weekly washing. I opted for the former. I don't mind buying bottled water to spritz it with in between washes though. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to protect your hair. I don't mind revamping my regimen. I know how to handle my hair now so I'm good to go. Try tweaking yours, get some ideas from fotkis.
I added shea butter along with oil for my ends. It's working well. Good luck finding what works for you!

Yes. I had to go through a lot of trial and error to see what worked for my hair. This is because things that other people swear by may or may not work well for my particular hair type. I had to test and see what things my hair liked and what things it didn't, and all the products and ingredients my hair hates I write down in my hair journal so that I don't make the mistake of buying that product or products similar to it again. I also do the same for products I do like.
