I did make a thread that i had the urge to touch someone's hair but i've kept myself in check but this past weekend I didn't.

I know all are you going to be like :perplexed:nono::nono: brg240 you know you are wrong :nono: I know, I know. I broke hair etiquette rules. And I've read how that makes some of you feel so i deserve any shade or head shakes you throw at me.

Before I start you have to know the girl's hair looked like the picture above.(except normal colors dark brown and light chestnut/reddish brown.) Also, we had been talking for a bit, i didn't stop her and do this.

Anyway I complimented her on her wig. And she was like this is my real hair. (I know again lack of etiquette, but, in my defense I'd seen about 20 people with wigs just like that.) Of course I apologized and told her I'm so sorry and her hair was super beautiful and i'd only said thought it was a wig because I'd seen so many girls with similar wigs (and to prove my point a girl walked past with one.) Anyway all in the short minute this was happeneing I kind of blurted out can i touch your hair. :nono: It wasn't even a thought through i just thought it looked so nice. :( She was like sure.

I don't know what type of hair she had maybe 1a... or it could be relaxed i have no idea. But i always assumed that type of hair felt like doll hair kinda.(Outside of my immediate family, i've never touched people's hair.) Her hair was so soft and sleek. It was so ridiculously soft. I paid her some more compliments on it and apologized too.

so yeah i'm sorry, i didn't show ya'll proud that day. I broke two major hair rules  She was the sweetest girl too.

Now lhfc fess up who else has done this. Or didn't think and did something they shouldn't regarding other's hair.

LOL! She must've had some amazing hair. I am happy she was nice to you. Now you confessed, repent and sin no more! Hahaha!

It was very nice, pretty layers and very flattering on her. Yes, i'm lucky she was sweet. We ended up talking for a couple of hours after that.

yes, i won't be doing this again, maybe :look:

I am glad she was sweet about it. Imagine if all of us could be that sweet we would have better hair relations and no need for summits. :lachen:

I don't see it as an offense, you asked her first and she said yes, you didn't molest her hair and scalp without her permission. No harm, no foul.

Now ask her if you can take pictures so you can share this loveliness with us! :look:

Yes, I think so. I guess the key thing would be asking permission to touch. And if you don't want some random person touching your hair just decline.

also lol at hair summits

That's what I think too but I know quite a few ladies get offended with it(i don't think they're wrong everyone has things they like and dislike.)

I wish I did get a shot of it. I know a random guy took a pic of us so if I see him post it I might post it here. :)

I don't have random ppl asking to touch my hair except for the odd kid or two and I didn't take offense at all. I also don't spend the week in righteous indignation if someone asks is my hair a wig or a weave or extensions or whatever. Some lady at the nail salon thought i had tips - that didn't make me mad either. So good thread - goes to show it doesn't have to be all that deep. :)

I'm with frizzy. I don't think you did anything wrong! You were polite and super complimentary. I know it's a no-no but i LOVE touching people's hair. In fact i JUST touched a co-worker's hair . Lol, she just got a new cut and she has the thickest, most lovely type 2 hair you've ever seen. Likewise, I don't mind if others touch my hair (except when it's drying or I haven't scrunched out the cruch yet). I find it flattering. To each their own.

This is a cute thread! :)

Meh, it's not that serious to me. Women have asked to touch my hair and I've let them. It feeds my hair ego to hear "It's so soooofffftttttt!".

Now if a random MAN asked to touch my hair.........:nono:

That is cute. It was not done in an offensive way at all, and you asked instead of just grabbing her hair. I see nothing wrong with it.

I saw a girl with the same green hair on Pitkin Ave on Tuesday, but it was definitely a wig.

Thank you. As with everything, folks sometime exaggerate on the net about them wanting to fight someone who touched their hair or even asked.

If your hair looks REALLY good then I want to stop and ask questions and touch. Flattery took on another level when folks paid their $6.50.

Be glad someone likes your hair enough to want to ask AND touch if it looks THAT good.

One time when I had just gone natural (texlaxed now) a little girl walked past me at the mall and she said really loudly, "Mommy I want hair just like HERS when I grow up!" and she pointed right at me! I was sooo flattered. I mean I was on cloud nine for days over that compliment.

Another time I was at a party and a girl I had just met the week before ran up behind me and thrust her fingers into my hair to feel for tracks and then complimented my thick hair...in front of everyone. I was not pleased but I politely thanked her and told her that I know she weave checked me but I'll take it as a compliment. What if it really HAD been weave? Um, I guess she was trying to embarrass me in front of a room full of people....and it backfired. Or maybe not. Who knows?
My hubby almost intervened when he saw this random girl manhandling my tresses.

Another time a relative hugged me, which was odd, sinces she is NOT a hugger and in the process she checked my nape for tracks. She laughed it off and said, "I didn't think it could have grown that much since the last time I saw you, sorry." I was not pleased, but I understood where she was coming from.

So it all depends.

Your story was cute and I thank you for sharing it. I would have felt highly complimented and honestly I love when people "ask" to touch my hair. Sure! Go for it!

Usually - it's a great compliment. :)

It was offensive because OP automatically assumed it was fake based on xyx, which is what many people think about black women. But luckily she was cool about it.

SO IT WAS YOU!!!!

:giggle: :giggle: Just joking!

yeah that's what i think most people would find offensive. You know what's interesting I never assume people have fake hair but in this one instance i did. I am not exaggerating when i say i saw at the very least 20 people with the two toned wigs. If I didn't actually see the vendor selling the wigs I wouldn't have thought it seriously.

I've never asked..I live dangerously:)

:lachen::lol: this made me laugh for real.

thanks for the comments ladies, i'm really hoping she wasn't offended. I'm pretty sure was okay. Oh and she asked me if my eyes were real later on. So maybe we were even? :drunk:

I can see how the wig comment could have offended someone, but her intention was good and she was sincere in her comment. But, I have to throw shade a you for the fact that you had the guts to first make an assumption, the guts to ask to touch her hair, talked to the girl for hours, and didn't ask for a photo. The only think missing from your story is the actual footage/photo of her hair.

Cute story, and I love your courage...rule breaker(Lol)!!!

Dear Penthouse,

Her hair was so soft and sleek. It was so ridiculously soft. I paid her some more compliments on it and apologized too.... LMAO :lachen:

Atleast you asked first! I dont think you did anything horribly wrong. People always touch my hair;I didnt know that was that bad of a thing to do until LHCF lol Just the other day the girl at Sally's reached over the cash register to touch the front of my hair, It kinda caught me off guard though
