Which do you think is the most important detangling element?

The Shampoo?

The Conditioner?

Or the Leave-in?

Why?

For me, I want my conditioner to detangle as well as my leave-in. I am combing as I rinse the conditioner from my hair under the shower and I want to be able to comb through my hair.

Oooh, this is a really good thread. To me they are all important as all products help each other. I use CON green poo which detangles nicely. I have different conditioners I use, but I have recently fallen in love with Paul Mithcell's The Detangler which is also excellent. My favorite detangling leave-in is BTZ Noodlehead because it provides a nice slippery texture. But my greatest breakthrough in keeping hair detangled has been washing in braids. So for me it's a combination of things, it's a big ol' process...

For me, it's which ever one I'm detangling with. I usually don't detangle with shampoo, but that's mostly because most of mines don't detangle well. But the best leave-in detangler that I've tried is Giovonni Direct. IT'S FYE!!!! So, it just depends on WHEN I detangle in the whole washing process.

My hair hates shampoo. :( There are only a select few that I can use without a massive pile of knots and tangles. So, for me the shampoo has to be the most important. The wrong shampoo makes even the best conditioner worthless!

You know what, my hair instantly reacts to shampoo too. What kind do you use??

Sorry to jack the thread!!! :perplexed

My shampoo is very important for me, because it is the starting process. If it's a drying poo then it just makes the whole process lengthy and tiring. That's why I'll try out a new cond. w/o a problem but I refuse to substitute my Nexxus Therappee.

I agree. If the shampoo detangles, everything else is smooth sailing afterwards.

For me its most important that the shampoo detangle. When I detangle with my shampoo, it tends to stay detangled when I condition, rinse out and apply my leave-in. Ive tried to just shampoo and then detangle at the conditioner stage but its WAY too much trouble!

I detangle before washing with conditioner. Then I wash my hair in 4-6 sections that I have in braids. This is the only thing that keeps my natural hair from being a tangled mess. I undo and redo each section to wash and apply conditioner or leave in/moisturizer.

I ususally detangle with the shampoo using CON in the green bottle because it has incredible slip, then I detangle again with my hair saturated with conditoner. By this time detangling is easier because I did it in the shampoo stage.

Conditioner. My hair can tolerate a shampoo that makes my hair feel a little dry like Aubrey, so long as I use a good conditioner. I rely on 4 things to make my detangling pretty effortless:
-Conditioner
-Sectioning
-Denman
-Water

Giovanni Direct is a great detangling leave-in, if you detangle after conditioning. I use Giovanni, but I've already detangled (and retwisted) by that point.

None of the above-- A comb and some fingers. I always detangle my hair with a big comb and my fingers before washing.

I would say the shampoo has to detangle if I have a lot of new growth, because I smooth with one of those shampoo brush thingies. That's not as important 1-4 weeks post relaxer. With the conditioner, that's more of the strengthening step for me. The leave-in needs to be detangling as well, because I generally comb my hair at this step. Ideally, everything would be slippery, I'd lose a lot less hair that way!
