A few weeks ago I went with my mother to the hair salon and kind of complained to her stylist about not being able to detangle my natural hair. Well she told me that after I wash it, slather on conditioner and comb it out with a shampoo brush.

I finally tried it last week and my hair was SOOOOO mush easier to comb out. The best part is that the shampoo brushes are only like $.99-$1.99 at the beauty supply store. Here is what they look like if you haven't seen or heard of one before:

I would really recommend this, especially for naturals. My hair type is 4a and arm pit length, so I've been having an extremely hard time dealing with it. Just thought I would share this advice!

I learned about detangling with these when I was natural and I still use them to this day, but only around the edges, especially the back area. I like my shampoo brush and I paid like $1 at Walgreens for it.

Oh shoot man!! I just recently threw away this thing because I never used it.

It would have been great for my daughter's natural 4a/b hair.

Great tip!! Will be purchasing another one very soon.

I always use my Conair shower comb to detangle my hair with the conditioner. Those shampoo brushes look scary to me.

What you said! If my shower comb ever fails me...then I will try a shower brush. Thanks for the tip!

This is interesting! How do you use it? How is it better than using a denman brush?

Since the length of the little bristles isnt that long, I'll get a section of my hair and put the shampoo brush tip between my index and middle finger, and I start detangling going up from tip to root, or either way really.

Btw, I have the brush with a little round tip and the top so you can put it between your fingers so the brush is like in the palm of your hand. I noticed that the ones I posted don't have that tip, so you would probably have to hold those differently.

They do look scary, you still have to be very careful with them, but the bristles are so short and flexible you can't rip out any hair. I would not use one that had stiff bristles.

I remember those, my mother use to use those to scrub my scalp and detangle my hair when I was little.

My sis told me her hairstylist she went to years did that too, but I ignored her. Thanx for reminding me!!!:)

Glad it worked for you.

For me, those things tangle my hair like no other. :look: You have to be awfully careful with them especially if you have long hair.

thank you so much for the tip, my detangling technique is far from deserving an Oscar...nomination:look: I hope I can find it somewhere.

For the brushes in the pic, it looks as if you can put your middle finger through the loop. That way, it'll fit in your palm. ;)

My hairstylist won't use this brush on my scalp/hair. I showed it to him. He said it will tear it out. I guess it works better with shorter type 3 hair instead of long, type 4a/b hair.
