Detangling Nightmare help Needed

I am transitioning and right now my hair does not want to detangle. I went to sleep overnight with some conditioner and oil on my hair and still does not seem to cooperate. What are people using to melt their tangles away right now? I have the Significant Other on blackberry alert to head to the BSS and pick up whatever you guys recommend.

My new growth has officially taken over. After i DC with la kair cholesterol I spray water on each section manking it ultra slippery I then detangle with a Denman brush.
I lose very little hair. Actually i still have my hair ball from earlier lol gross I know but I was considering taking a picture.
I section my hair into 6 big twists to apply DC and I detangle each section in 2 parts (so essentially, I detangle in 12 sections ) this works for me. I either pin the detangled sections up or retwist them.
To reiterate the answer I think la kair and extra water from a spray bottle are what makes it so easy to detangle.

I just mixed my Yes To Carrots with the rest of my Rusk Hair Smoother and it's a nice detangling hairsmoother. You can use your favorite moisturizing conditioner and add coconut oil into it...or olive oil.

Awww too bad. I really saturate my hair with the oil. It literally gets slippery with all the oil all over it.

You can't get it locally unless you live near a horse feed shop, but Cowboy Magic does the trick. Google it, I keep some on hand for times such as yours, although not often with me. It does work like magic. I use lustrasilk mango/shea butter cholesterol to detangle, works really well.

I have 8 months of new growth on my head right now and have found that I would have to allow my hair to airdry after rinsing out the conditioner and then part a little hair at a time, add some Beauty Without Cruelty leave-in/moisturizer to the parted out hair, use my fingers to separate the hairs a bit and then use a medium to wide tooth comb to detangle.

I also learned to avoid this happening by detangling my hair before washing, plait is up in 4-6 big braids, seal ends with small rubber/cloth bands to avoid it unravelling during the wash and conditioning process. I would then unravel one section at a time to add leave in then braid that section back up. Repeat on next section and so on and so on...

Now I don't have to fight to detangle my hair like I used to anymore except on henna days but no matter what, I always detangle before washing and DCing. I use the shower for washing instead of the sink because using the sink really makes detangling for me very very difficult. I sure hope you find something that will work well for you.

If you do use oil, make sure it's heated first. Hot oil treatments work better than just oil poured on your hair IMO.

I used to use this and I remember that it worked pretty good too. Only thing is I haven't tried the new formula and I don't know if it works as well as the old one.

Hi, I just finished a 14 week strech -- (first time ever!!), but what really loosed up the NG and tangles was Silicon Mix mixed with EVOO, then under the dryer. Those tangles just seem to melt and the comb went straight through. HTH Good Luck transitioning.

I will share what I have learned about my hair, even what i refused to believe but my hair always wins so I will have to listen, she makes me submit every time. Like Aggie I seem to need to detangle on dry hair not wet. Maybe it is the mix of too many different textures all needing different methods but wet detangling with any amount of conditioner/ oils/ treatments lead to ripping. I knew that my waves and coils did not play well, much less full of shed hair and tangles and wet, so really I was just making a recipe for disaster.
When dry I can separate or comb through tangles. Not when wet, they clump together making it a dangerous task to even separate the wet sections to detangle using the section method. I need to also use smaller than a large tooth comb. It really doesn't do much for the tangles for me, but the smaller tooth is dangerous on wet hair. Once again my hair telling me what to do and me not listening.
Like HeChangedMyName mentioned Cantu used as wash out conditioner really gives good slip when I do have a regular case of the tangles as I have rinsed it out before and it made my hair silky from root to tip. Who knows why I did not try it today as my hair has told me before that it works, it may have eased todays mess.
Lessons relearned - Listen to your hair. Not everything that works for everybody will work for you.
Oh and I guess I wont get to rock the braidout every few weekends like I hoped until after my transition is over because I should remove shed hair when taking out my braids to avoid the tangles as well.

I have to do everything in sections. Is there any way to get the hair in smaller sections? It's a lot easier that way. Also lots of conditioner and lots of patience

i put V05 on dry hair, and let it sit while i shower. then i do a little finger detangling, and put my head under the spray. then i slather on MORE V05, and detangle with my shower comb.​

Tresemme conditioners make my hair easy to detangle. The ones I've used are Anti-Breakage, Moisture Rich, Thermal Recovery, and Smooth & Silky.

When I have used the Pantene Time Renewal or Relaxed & Natural mask I've had an easy time detangling also.

Last night I used Silk Elements MegaSilk Olive Moisturizing Treatment for the first time and it also made detangling easy.

I detangle with my wide-tooth comb under running water with the conditioner in my hair.
