Detangling Long Hair

I used to be able to detangle once a week or so when I was BSL and above. Now that my hair has gotten longer and thicker, I find I have to detangle about twice or three times a week to keep the shed hair from creating knots, making dreads, and making my new growth excessively dry.

Anyone else with this problem? Is there a better way to manage this?

I don't have long hair (yet) But I know many long haired ladies place their hair in twists, braids or bantu knots to stop their hair from tangling.

Hmmmm....I've never had a problem with this but maybe that's because I keep my hair in 2-4 braids at night? And if I'm wearing it straight, I wrap at night so I just comb it everyday (haven't worn it straight since I made mbl). I also co-wash at least twice a week so maybe that's why I don't have those problems and my new growth stays moisturized. How are you styling your hair? I know if I wear a braidout, I have to detangle 2 days after the braidout and no later, otherwise my hair will begin to mat.

I agree with the OP. It's also been harder for me to stay detangled with longer hair. I found that I must detangle at night (very gently with a wide tooth comb) if my hair is in any style except a bun.

I wish I could help.

I usually make my mom do it.

I don't know what I'll do if I move or get married or something lol...probably drive home and have her detangle my hair lmbo.

I usually try to wait about 2-3 days, but because I wash freqently detangling is an issue for me too.

I detangle, put my hair in braids, and for some reason lately it has still ben tangling. A few weeks ago I had a problem with protein overload, but I have since restored the moisture balance. I am almost 12 weeks post relaxer, and no matter what I do-braid, wrap, etc, my hair is still tangling. It's also tangling at the ends- it's never done that before. I've lost some inches because of that. No idea what to do.

I go to work and by mid-day my hair is tangled. Any suggestions to calm the tangles? I normally wear my hair roller set/saran wrapped.
