Hello Dejuan
I minimise breakage by wearing braids 99% of the time the other 1% is when I remove them to wash & condition, intially I wait 3-5 days before redoing braids, cornrows etc. within that period I wear two strand twists, ensuring that I keep them moisturised, daily. I never ever leave my hair out in an afro, because the air is so drying, and causes breakage, elimnating heat from blow dryers, flat-irons, curling tongs and less combing is an excellent way to retain length, I've stopped blowdrying my hair for 5 months now, I have very little breakage and my hair is super strong. I try not to adhere to the science of hair, in terms of genetics. I had short hair as a child, now its the longest it has ever been in my entire life, I throw genetics out the window, I'll grow my hair as long as I can, you can do the same too. Good-luck, visit my website, the address is in my signature, I hope you find it useful.
