Defeats the purpose of a Steamer?

Was just telling my bff yesterday that I ordered me a hair steamer and it's on the way. I of course then had to explain to her what a steamer was.

She then asked, but when you sit under the dryer to dry your hair, won't that defeat the purpose of you misting it with steam earlier?

Ummmm... she stumped me with this question. Can anyone help?

hmmm... it might.

I plan to use my steamer similar to a water rinse. Just steam my hair for a little while, then air dry. Then occasionally use it to deep condition, before doing a real rinse and air dry.

Using dry heat might defeat the purpose of the steamer. Maybe a lady that has tried it will chime in.

The Steam INFUSES moisture into the strands. So - it brings more moisture to your hair if you use a flat iron, a dryer, twist or air dry your hair.

I think the OP wants to know what would happen if you use the steamer for DC and then soon after use a dryer. Would there be any benefit?

If you are planning to use a dryer you may be drying out your hair anyway. Using a steamer should counteract those drying effects.

I agree with Samantha. From what I've heard, it also ensures deeper penetration of conditioners, so I don't think it's counteractive to steam and then use a dryer.

To me, the concept is sort of like the Maxiglide, only you steam with deep conditioners. Hope that's right. :look:

My stylist always wash, condition, steam, blowout, and then flatiron. I would just throw rollersets in place of the iron. Moisture is gonna be infused into your hair strands anyway. Seriously, thats like saying that every time you dry your hair that you're gonna dry out all the moisture inside the hair shaft. If that was the case none of us would have nothing but two strings on top of our head like Charlie Brown!
