Hi everyone,

I know a lot of folks apply their deep conditioners like relaxers. At the risk of asking a dumb question: does this work on dry hair? Also can you apply heat if it's done on dry hair? I'm asking because I'm about to take out a set of kinky twists and I have a lot of ng. I'm worried it may get too tangled if I don't do something to soften it before wetting. All advice is welcome! Thanks...

Yep, it works on dry hair. I don't know if it's better on dry hair or wet but I always deep condition on dry hair with no problems.

It helps a lot in the detangling process also.

Yes it works. Here's a video of a lady taking down her braids using conditioner. Excellent method. She uses a CRAP load of cheap conditioner and the braids slip right out.

I just re-read your question (Adult ADD lol). Do yourself a favor if you have a lot of growth more than 2 month's worth and have type 4 hair, and wash your hair in large braids (4 or 5). Otherwise your hair will dread up. Happened to me after braids and I had to cut :(

Yes, many DC on dry hair and it saves them from jumping in and out of the shower!
Also, many prepoo with a cheapie conditioner mixed with oils so maybe you could add some oil to the conditioner and that would be good too...

I was concerned about this! My hair is mix, but I can see where this definitely could be a problem for me still. When you say large braids are we talking four or five? Also, are you saying the braids themselves don't dread?

Yes, I read in an article that you can use heat when DC'ing on dry hair. It said that it helps it to penetrate better.

Yes. By large braids I mean that you braid your own hair into about 5 large plaits or braids after taking down the hair. The braids themselves will not dread because your new growth is stretched out during the wash process. So it won't shrink up and lock at the line of demarcation. Not all hair types need to do this, but if you're a 4b, I definitely recommend it.

Ok thanks! My hair tangles easily so I will do this.
