Can anyone please suggest really good MOSITURIZING dominican deep conditioners & shampoos? I would really appreciate it. TIA

Deep Conditioners(my personal faves):

Nacidit Avocado Cream Conditioner
Tropical Aloe Vera Conditioner
Silicon Mix
Miss Key 10 en 1

ETA: Salerm Wheat Germ Oil Mask is a popular one and I've read that it is very, very moisturizing. I plan to try that in the near future.

My sis introduced this to me and I've been hooked ever since. I've been using this as a deep conditioner once a week since the beginning of the year and along with yummy smell it helps to soften and moisturize my new growth during my long relaxer stretches (16-18 weeks)

Praital Silk Worm Humectant (purple one), Silicone Mix, Rysell Avacodo Conditioner. I also like to make Dominican cocktails, they work really good too.

Does it have protein? I am looking for a good DC without protein.

Do Deep Conditioners always have some form of protein? Is that what makes it Able to penetrate the hair shaft?

Does anyone know of Deep Conditioners that don't have protein.

Since joining here, I've realized that most of my conditioners and some of my poos have silk or animal protein. And I'm definately in a too much protein phase right now. My hair is pretty strong but it lacks elasticity and it snaps sometimes.

But I don't think I should stom deep conditioning. I just need some suggestions.

this is because you need some protein for the hair to absorb moisture. thats what i read on here.

Deep conditioners don't have to contain protein. The following info is from a thread about different types of protein and their benefits. Collagen, silk, and wheat proteins are very beneficial for your hair (help hair retain moisture). The only protein you really don't want to "overdo" is keratin. That is the protein found in most reconstructors (strong protein treatments).

All proteins are strengthening proteins to some degree but here are more specific characteristics of these proteins:

Collagen Proteins --
known for increasing elasticity in the hair.

Silk Proteins -- known for softening the hair.

Wheat Proteins -- a moisturizing and strengthening protein. Known for increasing the hair's ability to maintain & receive moisture.

Keratin Protein -- responsible for keeping the hair strong and pliable. This is the strongest of the (hair product) proteins and is actually the one hair is made from. This one re-structures hair that has been damaged or broken down by chemicals. It helps to replace the amino acid cysteine which is the main one lost during chemical processing. This is the heavy duty protein. If you see the following as an ingredient:

*a) Keratin protein -- the will re-structure and strengthen the hair cuticle (the outer layer only & the most important layer)

*b) Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein of Keratin Amino Acids -- this means that the Keratin molecules have been broken down and are small enough to go beyond the cuticle and penetrate the hair shaft. It will strengthen all 3 layers of the hair. That is why the term "deep conditioning" technically only refers to this kind of treatment using penetrating proteins.

*c) Hydrolyzed Human Hair Keratin -- This is an exact match for the keratin your hair has (or has lost due to chemical processing). This is the highest quality and most potent keratin that can be used in hair products.

*Vegetable protein -- Vegetable protein absorbs more easily into the hair shaft (than animal protein) and does not create build-up, leaves the hair very shiny, radiant, luxuriant, and healthy.

*Animal protein -- Animal protein breaks down into fatty acids, which coats the hair and create residual build-up.

Silk Amino Acids/Protein -- Natural Silk is the strongest, natural fiber known to mankind. Discovered in Japan and has been used for centuries in all kinds of products that require durability. Silk has a tiny molecule that can penetrate the entire hair shaft deeper than all other proteins without adding any weight leaving the hair feeling clean and non-greasy.

The Keratin is some reconstructors should not leave your hair hard like the Aphogee Treatment for damaged hair (which contains hydrolyzed animal protein). This treatment hardens on your hair for a reason and is used with mild heat. A moisturizing conditioner is a must with this in order to soften like KeraCare Humecto.

Reconstructors that contain keratin and other proteins are supposed to have enough moisture to soften the hair therefore leaving your hair with a nice protein/moisture balance.

No. There are a lot of deep conditioners that don't have any protein.

Does anyone know of Deep Conditioners that don't have protein.

The popular ones on this board include Keracare humecto, Nexxus humectress, Motions Moisture plus, etc. For dominican deep conditioners without protien, this thread is pretty good so far. Except I do know that some of them have protien in them (example, Miss Key 10 en 1 and Silicon Mix).

Check out this thread for popular moisturizing conditioners on this board.

Me too! I had to fall back on the protein a bit and focus on moisturizing. My hair definitely has improved since I did alot more moisturizing deep conditioning (with no protien).

Silicon Mix

I'm 12 weeks post and it made my new growth extremely soft! This is definitely a keeper! :D

I co-sign the Silicon Mix and Nacidit Avocado condish.

I've also used La Bomba before and it was the BOMB!

Whatchu thinking about trying?

that avocado one I think. I want something that works like silicon mix w/o the keratin (or another protein) and can be used after protein treatments.
