Dead Follicles

How can you tell if your follicles are dead is there any physical signs on your scalp? Darkness around that area or something of that nature? If anyone has been told by a derm that their follicles are dead in a certain area what did it look like?

Usually the area is smooth and shiny. You can't see a folicle (where usually a healthy follicle is visible).

Think - male pattern baldness.

Yeah it is very smooth and shiny. Usually the hair follicles will be visible.
