I'm kinda sorta in a bind...I have a last minute business trip and my stylist is BOOKED!!! I am in desperate need of a "shapeup". My layers have gotten the best of me. Usually I rock either a pony or a bun but for this trip (this w/e btw) that won't be an option.

So my question to you guys is...where should I go--who do i need to see!? I live in downtown silver spring. I really need someone who is good at trims/cuts and will allow me to keep my length. Also it would be great if they were skilled at rollersets or rollerwraps.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!!

I can only recommend my stylist who is in Rockville in the Salon Plaza. She is good with trims and good at rollersets. I haven't been to her in over a year, but I went to her for a while. Her name is Grace. Here is the information from the salon recommendations post:

Grace from Restorations Hair Studio(Rockville, MD)

Pros:
Bases scalp well b/4 applying a relaxer
Applies relaxer w/o it being half way up you hair shaft
Rinses relaxer well from hair
Puts conditioner and lets it sit to restore PH after relaxer
Neutralizes well
When conditions, gives the best scalp massage
Gives the best TRIMS
Is a roller setting diva that rarely used heat (but let's you decide)
On-time and DOES NOT OVER BOOK
Keeps a book with all her clients and types of relaxers they use
Does (or did with me) a consultation FIRST before dealing with your hair
Sends b-day cards to clients (She is so sweet)
A christian (may not matter to some, but she is NOT Ghetto fab and rude)
In to healthy hair
Listens
Uses Affirm relaxers (and I think some other stuff too, but that's what I got with her)
Uses KeraCare products (I am sure others too, but she used this on me)
ETA: She will recommend another stylist if you are moving to another area if she knows one. When I moved back to Baltimore for a minute she told me of a great stylis there (but I never went to her)

Cons:
Pricey
New place is small (Unless she moved to a bigger spot)

That's about it. It should tell you something that I followed her to 3 different salons. My hair was thriving well when I was with her.

PM me for her phone number.

I would suggest going to a dominican salon...which are in silver spring if you want a nice rollerset; however, i wouldn't trust them to give you a trim or layers /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Tiffany, excellent stylist she has long hair that she usu. wears in a ponytail.

Here was my review (9/26/03): Okay, I got my hair done on Friday with Tiffany at Avatar Wellness Salon and Spa in Silver Spring, MD.

Tiffany herself had her hair in a ponytail that was at least bra strap which I thought was a good sign. Her assistant based me; I can't remember her name, but she was Latina and she's getting her license next month, she's in classes now, everyone also said she's great with updos. After that Tiffany took over and applied my relaxer as well as rinsing it out. The only thing I didn't like is that I did not receive a deep conditioner under the dryer. After all the neutralizing and conditioning she applied a leave-in conditioner and combed my hair down and sat me under the dryer (I asked for a blow-dry and curl).

While I was under the dryer I saw her do a girl's hair beautifully so I couldn't wait, plus this girl's hair was long (about 4 in. to bra-strap) and thick, then another one of her clients came in with long, thick, healthy hair to get a relaxer...so I'm thinking all right this woman has some good client's hair.

She trimmed the 1st girl's hair and it wasn't anything drastic, so when it was my time to sit in the chair and she asked if I wanted a trim, I said yes, but only because of my own uneven trimming the week before. She trimmed my hair lightly just to make it a bit more even in the back, no inches gone in the name of a trim, just a quarter inch trim. Then she got to the business of styling my hair, she asked me did I want it away or in my face and where did I like my part. She then proceeded to give me the best hairstyle I've ever had coming out of a salon and she used no heavy oils or grease (she said she doesn't like them and likes hair to flow) then she followed it all with a bit of Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops and a finishing shine spray.

When I got out the chair people in the salon were oohing and aahing it was gorgeous. I asked her did the salon sell Keracare Silken Seal because they did have some of their products, but they were out of it. She told me the Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops were equivalent, so I bought that as well. I also gave her a nice tip, I was so happy I came out of a salon without adjusting my hairstyle.

Later that day I saw my parents and they loved my hair especially my mom. I told her I will be going to this salon forever!

check the salon review board, there are LOTS of great rec's /images/graemlins/smile.gif
