What's up with my hair wanting to tangle now when I wash? What can I do so I don't tear my hair out?

You may need to very lightly comb through you hair to be sure you don't have tangles in the first place, also, a prepoo can help. Some ladies do straight coconut, but there are other concoctions. Just run a search on the forum to see other people use for recipies.

The only other problem I can see you possibly having is not having your strands go in the same direction when you wash. The longer my hair gets the more I realize that hanging upside down in the sink is a bad idea. :ohwell: So I wash in the shower *unless I'm relaxing*.

I'm still trying to avoid tangles myself, but here's what helped me:
-Try to detangle before washing.
-Deep condition and run your fingers through it while the conditioner is in to loosen some tangles.
-Don't pile your hair on top of your head when you wash.
-Make sure you fully rinse out all of your shampoo/conditioner. My stylist recommended washing my hair under the bathtub faucet rather than the shower because the water pressure is closer to the sprayers they use in the shop. I know it sounds country, but it helped!
-I personally avoid air drying because that makes tangling worse. I will sit under a hood dryer for a while to make sure it's at least damp to fully dry. I like to wear phony ponies sometime, and I would put in a ponytail and airdry. Too many tangles when I finally took the ponytail down to wash it! Now I will experiment with sitting under a hood dryer for while first before adding the phony pony.
-If you still have tangles once your hair is fully dry, don't pull them. Saturate them with olive oil and it will naturally loosen the knot. Once your hair is softened by the oil, smooth the tangle/knot loose with your fingers. You can also use the end of a rat tail comb if you can get the tangle out with the oil and your fingers alone.

Hope this helps!

Detangling the hair gently before washing with a liquid detangling spray and/or with conditioner and oil as a DC or pre-poo will help. Also washing in braids, combing in sections under the shower stream with conditioner. Finger detangle first, then use a shower comb. If the comb doesn't glide through the hair, then go back to using your fingers at the knot and try to separate it. HTH :)

Yep and CHI Silk Infusion melts tangles away.
