Okay ladies. I'm back, but I need help. I started going to the DOminicans to get wash n sets, but I have a problem. I'm beginning to suffer from dandruff and maybe it's me or it's really a problem, but with the increase dandruff, I noticed more hair loss!!!!

Right now, my scalp is on fiya. The last that I washed my hair was March 30th, which has been only 9 days so far and my scalp is itching like crazy and I'm not feeling the increase in hair loss. Though the hairs aren't broken, they have the little white bulb on the tip. ANY SUGGESTIONS? WHAT SHOULD I TRY IMMEDIATELY?

BTW, I DON'T USE OIL OR ANYTHING ON MY HAIR OR SCALP BECAUSE IT'S PRODUCING PLENTY OF OIL ON IT'S OWN. I've always had this problem in the past, and now here we go again. I need help, i would like to rid myself of this problem once and for all. My hair is growing in really nicely and I'll be damned if it falls out.

I don't have any advice for you but just wanted to say hello and its good to see you again. I'm forever quoting newbies to find your rollarsetting step by step guide.

I'm sure others will give you help. For what its worth, would you consider a protein treatment plus a moisturizing conditioner to help curb the hair loss?

nice to "see" you again!! I'm not familiar with dandruff problems but maybe you should look into a good dandruff shampoo. My aunt uses the Dudley's dandruff shamp and she always has great looking hair.

LOL @Roller setting referrals. Too funny. Thanks for the shout out as well. Actually, I'm using a mild protein/moisturizing conditioner (ORS Hair Mayo). I put ZERO heat on my hair, no excessive styling, no cremes and etc because my hair seems to be doing pretty good with producing moisture, but I suffer from dandruff.

I guess, this weekend, I'll consider washing my hair with Neutrogena T-Gel, conditioning with CPR followed with Moisturefuse and my old reliable Arosci Leave in.

I guess I'll report back. I wish I could wash my hair today, but i have no time

Hi AmilLion, I have a girlfriend that suffers from dandruff. She has been able to get it under control by doing ACV rinses. She rinses her hair before she shampoos and then right after she shampoos. She stated that this has really helped her. Maybe you can incorporate the rinse into your routine, if you're not already doing it..... I hope this helps..

Hi AmilLion,

I can relate. I have the dandruff thing, too. Some ladies from some other hair boards from long ago may remember the conconxion that I am about to suggest- but it was for hair growth, not dandruff. I do this 2 times a month, and have not suffered from dandruff since. Plus, this stimulates new growth, so it has 2 benefits:

Combine in a bowl:
A shot of Vodka
2 plain aspirin (not tylenol- plain, like the cheapie kind)
1 antacid (Alka Selzer)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Mix this up and apply to your scalp one section at a time. I apply it with a soft toothbrush, and leave it on about 15 minutes. It will kind of sting (from the cayenne), but boy does your scalp look and feel good after.

Does anyone else remember this recipe?
I haven't seen anyone talk about it in a while, but I still love it.

You may want to try Nizoral medicated dandruff shampoo. It comes in a blue bottle and is extremely effective at eliminating dandruff. It's a bit expensive ($7-$10), depending on what size bottle you get. When I had dandruff in past, I would wash my hair with Nizoral and leave it in a few minutes, rinse it out and then follow with my regular moisturizing shampoo.

AmilLion,

Your problem could be that you have an oily scalp and not dandruff. I too have an oily scalp, which is why I have to shampoo my hair often (if not, my oily scalp could cake up - I know sounds gross, but it's true - and my scalp would itch like crazy). When I first came on the internet hair board scene (in 1999), I thought I had dandruff, but after consulting with Jade, I finally discovered that I had a VERY oily scalp. Besides frequest shampooing, acv rinses also help me out a great deal. HTH.

You know what, that makes sense. When I was washing my hair frequently I didn't have the problem. I just never associated Oily scalp with dandruff when infact, it could be my own sebum oils causing the flakes. Thanks a lot everyone for the help. Also, when I think about it, my mother has very OILY hair to the 10th power and if she doesn't wash it every 4 or 5 days, pretty much the same problem occurs.

I agree with Allandra.. I used to have really bad dandruff and once I started washing/rinsing my hair twice a week it stopped immediately.

Well, let us know what you come up with. BTW, I hope all is going well.

Hi - I came out of lurk mode to offer a tip I recently tried
and it really clarified my scalp:

Vinegar. Regular distilled white vinegar applied to my scalp (I poured it into one of those mini bottles usually used for hair dyeing)- Not a lot. Just enough and I slept with it on.

The next morning I washed it out, section by section using Jason Naturals Dandruff relief shampoo. (Not the best smelling stuff but works well enough to recommend also - rinse a lot and follow up with Pantene for a nice scent)

My scalp came out absolutely clear.
