Dandruff problem

I might as well ask the experts for their input /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a serious problem with dandruff. It is mostly stress related, since I have tried every single product over the years to get rid of it but with no luck. Moreover when I get stressed I don't wear black (and I sooo much love wearing black) cause it's as if it is snowing on my shoulders and colar.

Any ideas - apart from the "don't get stressed" - how to at least calm it down?

Thanks

Have fun

I think you should add B vitamins and Biotin to your diet. Those vitamins help the scalp shed the cells at a normal pace.

Nikos,

You are very special and I wanted to say personally how much I appreciate how much you do here at the site. Not to mention your wonderful sense of humor /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My suggestions to you would be to take at least 5mg of biotin daily when you are feeling stressed and you feel like your scalp is running amok. Also, 15mg of zinc is also very helpful. If you can, also massage your scalp gently with your fingertips both to relax and encourage release of the scales. If you have a soft boar bristle brush, this might also be helpful to you, espeically if you do it gently. Just don't brush like wild because this can actually make it worse. Also, what shampoo have you been using? If you can, find a tea tree oil shampoo and use it regularly. That will stem any itching and help to calm your scalp.

Since you are Greek, I know you must have some virgin olive oil around the house. Check the threads here for a good ole hot oil treatment. You want to warm the oil, apply it to your scalp and leave on for at least 15 minutes prior to shampooing. You might also add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (ACV) into the olive oil after it is warmed. Both will assist in stabilizing your scalp and removing the flakes.

Much Love to Nikos,

Jade

Hi Nikos! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Crysdon and Jade pretty much summed it up. Ditto to everything they said. Good luck! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree - Boost your B vitamins and chill on coffee and dairy and high sugar content foods. (Coffee leeches vitamin b stores from your body and dairy and sugar feeds the yeast that is dandruff- making it more active)

Thanks Crysdon and Jade

Jade: Yes there is plenty of virgin olive oil in the house. Mom ensured that I do have some /images/graemlins/tongue.gif The current shampoo that I am using believe it or not comes from Tesco - LondonDiva's don't laugh - which is a supermarket chain here. I found it to be very good for my hair, since I shower on a daily basis and other shampoos used to dry my hair. The conditioner of the same brand just leaves them nice and soft for the rest of the day.

I heard about the tea tree while watching a health program on TV (waiting for StarTrek to start /images/graemlins/tongue.gif) I guess I have to give it a try, since I will follow your advice blindfolded. As they say everyone to his/her element is king and my element is computers and not hair, so what better place to get advice /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'll give it a try coming this weekend - me needs to go shopping

Have fun

Chill on coffee might be a bit of a problem. I cut totally the sugar and sugary foods cause I want to loose some weight and change my metabolism. You might say that 90 Kg is OK for a man 1.90m but I would like to loose slowly at least 5 Kgs since it is more comfortable on my waist (due to those hours in front of the pc).

As for the dairy... does that include Feta Cheese? /images/graemlins/frown.gif
