DAMN CASTOR OIL!!!!!!

I hate l'HUILE MASKETI!!!! I hate it! I hate it! My hair is TOO thick and TOO nappy. This weekend I had my worst hair experience of all. I was very close to just snipping all of my fro off!!!
After washing my hair with a detangling shampoo this is what happened:

When wet it wasn't bad but when I let it air dry in big dookey braids (excuse the lack of a better word) with plenty of moisturizing products it was STILL like cotton. Some of my biggest combs were breaking and I couldn't even manually part my own hands without ending up with some of my hair in big knots.

The interesting part of this is that my hair is only a rough 4BBBBBBB texture at the roots. The rest of my hair is almost 3c and my ends are thin. At this point I can do one of the following things:

1. break my no heat challenge this weekend and go to my scissor happy stylist to press my hair ($50!!!!) and tell her to focus on my roots (i can be guranteed my hair will be bonestraight for at least 2 weeks)

2.Slap some biosilk on- lightly blowdry my hair go over to my relatives house to flat iron my hair. (I will also tell her to focus on my roots)

3. Don't do anything to my hair, let it nap up until my no heat challenge is over....

Sorry this is so long, but i would really appreciate if you guys could give me some advice- my scalp is about to slid off!!

I really am unsure of what you are unhappy with the oil for. Because your hair is now thick or because of the texture. Could you please clarify?

Well, I honestly don't see the problem. Increased thickness and naps are a sign of growth, right? Can you clarify? :)

Ummm yeah I don't see the problem either...what is wrong with cotton?? LOL!

And why are you combing your hair when it's dry? Big no no. You should comb it while it's wet and slathered in conditioner...THEN let it dry. If you dry it in two big braids it's probably not going to have the shape you want. I assume you are natural. Why not twist it or just let it dry with no twists with your own kinks and curls with some light gel applied.

I love castor oil. It is suppose to make your hair thick. I use it on my edges which started thinning from doing afro puffs.

I understand!! I used castor oil on my hair when i was natural, it made my hair extremely coarse and hard to conmb, i'll bever use it again for airdrying, it also dried my hair ends out.

edited to add: I've seen your hair before, why are you using castor oil? it makes the hair too thick. you aleady have thick hair remember we were discussing how hard it was to deal with thick hair. Its best used mixed with other carrier oils like olive oil, jojoba, coconut oil.

I am unhappy with the oil because of the state it has left my hair (particularly my roots) in. The texture at my roots has completely changed and is impossible to deal with.

i'm a 3c/4a and castor oil has only softened/moisturized my hair as well as made it thicker but it never changed the texture or made it knot up or anything of the sort. i use castor oil from www.thechemistrystore.com and
jamaica black castor oil.

Thanks den, I remember we did talk about this before. I was using castor oil because of my scalp condition. And now are there any emergency immediate softening products I could use?

Tree tea oil is good for scalp conditions, just dilute with some jojoba oil. I would rewash with a conditioner only leve some conditioner on and comb out in sections. In medium sized sections apply creamy leave-in and good moisturiser. then braid or twist the hair and cover with scarf to airdry, then style it once dry. i know what your talking about castor oil left my roots very coarse too. Follow my instructions and you should be fine.

Thanks so much! Den to the rescue yet again! I was just about to go and make an appointment to press my hair this friday before Christmas....this is me making another excuse to break my no heat challenge (i never thought it would be this hard) Another problem I have is the fact that I havent been able to find my "super conditioner" yet. I don't feel like garnier fructis's 3 min deep conditioner is doing it for my hair.. any other suggestions anyone?

Have you tried joico intensive moisturiser conditioner, Keracare Humecto
and Nexxus Humectress, their all very good especially joico. Good luck

My hair hate castor oil. its just too thick and my strands aren't made of steal liek they used to be

Have you guys tried heating the black castor oil and mixing it with other conditioners then putting it on as a deep conditioner? Or maybe a little bit mixed in with a myriad of suaves for a pre-poo? My hair likes it, but not globs of it by itself.

Kenra moisturizing conditioner is good for tough, coarse hair. I use it as a deep conditioner and as a leave in. I call it my "coconut butter" because it smells like coconuts and it has a nice, vaseline-like texture.

THANKS to everyone for your suggestions!! I really thought there was no way to deal with my hair in the conditon that it was in. But thanks to my recently purchased cantu shea butter daily moisturizer my hair is good as new. It is still very thick at the roots and slightly difficult to detangle but NOTHING compared to the way it was before! I armed and ready with the joico conditoner den told me to purchase for my next washing. And i will stay on the no heat challenge!!
