Usually, if hair is damaged, it's damaged and she may very well have to trim it. Unless her hair follicles are damaged, she's fine and her hair should grow back with no problems. However, I would strongly suggest that she deep condition her hair and possibly use conditioner washes for a while. I would also suggest that she keep her hair moisturized as well.
They do have treatments available that will seal the cuticle but those are only temporary solutions. Reconstructors are good for this. Nexxus' Keraphix is good as well as IC reconstructor or something by Paul Mitchell. Also, be sure that she is getting enough water on a daily basis...she should be drinking at least half her body weight in ounces of water daily.
