I basically wash my hair everyday 3 seasons out of 4 of the year and let it airdry. I was wanting a serum to control frizz, but would that be harmful to use everyday since it's a plastic and can build up? I clarify once every month and since I am washing everyday, I was wondering if it would still be a problem.

i haven't had a problem either. all of the -cones are not necessarily bad.

THe only problem I seem to be having with serums is flaking

and white buildup that sticks to my hair strands. Has anyone else experienced this? I'll still continue to use serums though because I'm able to maintain a style for days, but I don't like the flakes. By the way, the white build up is so tough that it doesn't wash out with shampoo

Sounds like you need to use a clarifying shampoo.

And I guess, if you don't mind build-up?

Soulchild,
I've tried clarifying shampoos---and I still get build up.
I've used about 3 different serums with the same results.
I don't notice the buildup, until I try to comb my hair around the edges a little---then I see the white flaking. Weird.

Serums can cause build-up. However, one should clarify often to keep the build-up at bay (since the build-up goes away when you clarify, but does come back once one starts using serums again). I continue to clarify often because I use cones a lot. My hair loves them.

brownie, i've never experienced this. how much are you using at a time? i usually just use enough to cover the palms of my hands and work it through my hair. i use it moreso to eliminate static than for shine. the extra shine is definitely a bonus though...
