READING, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania father is apologizing after police say he pulled his daughter's male friend by the hair and chopped off his dreadlocks with a knife.

Reginald Hardy was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other offenses after police say he saw the 19-year-old sneaking around his apartment Friday with his 17-year-old daughter.

Police say the 38-year-old Hardy punched the 19-year-old in the face and threatened to shoot him in the back if he ran away as he left.

Hardy tells WFMZ-TV he was only looking out for his daughter. He says her friend was disrespectful to him and shouldn't have been at the apartment.

Police say Hardy cooperated with the investigation. He's free on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12.

I bet that boy was too afraid. I get where dad is coming from but he should have thought better

He didn't need to cut his hair. But I hope that young man doesn't go sneaking around young ladies houses anymore.

Does he think his daughter won't find other ways to meet up with guys ? 17 and 19 is nothing concerning .

I know this is a hair board but ya'll tripping. She's a minor. He lucky he's still alive. Them dreads would have been shaved off with warning to him and the girl child that reporting about it would not end well for either one of them.

He's lucky that's all he cut off. Don't be sneaking around with girls in their houses. There might be good reason why she's so interested in sneaking.

Rape to engage in sexual intercourse with a complainant who is less than 13 years of age.

Rape to engage in deviate sexual intercourse with a complainant who is less than (1) 13 years of age or (2) 16 years of age and the actor is four or more years older
Unless I'm reading that wrong she is consenting. How you get mad at someone else your child brought into your home?

mad or not....consenting or not...my dad would have done the same thing and probably worse....followed by the "my house, my rules" speech.

I understand some parents do things differently...mine however did not play around with boys or men being snuck into their home when I was living there and I was 17. Any man coming to visit me had to ring the doorbell and meet at least one of my parents...there was no sneaking. That would have been a recipe for disaster for me and the young man.

oh well.......

I understand being mad and even taking some action. I don't understand going to jail over it. Whose going to protect the daughter while you are up in jail? I think it could have been handled better. I think he let his emotion cloud his judgement.

side note to prove that boys and girls can suffer the same fate:

....one of my good friend's little brother snuck in a girl when we were in college....he was probably 16 and the girl was around the same age...anyways....my friend's mom caught them..ummmmm well...let's just say SHE was doing something very grown up to HIM....think lollipop....

anyways.... the girl snuck in and my friend's mom didn't know she was there. when she caught them, she grabbed the girl by the hair and dragged her out of the house and proceeded to call her mother and tell her what happened.

some parents take responsibility at all costs to try to protect their children. your hair is not safe. LOL:lachen::lachen::lachen:

anyway.....right or wrong, i lost my mind laughing on that one!

You consent when you lay up on a mattress you bought in a home you rent or own.

Kids got it twisted for real. Wish to hell some minor with whiskers on his nether regions try to quote statutes to me.

That's understandable don't just sit back and throw your hands up but how about raise your children better or watch them better and not put your hands on someone else's child who was invited into your home by YOUR child.

I wish someone would discipline my child because their child snuck him/her in. I'll deal with my child give me a call heck detain them if you will but don't you dare discipline my child.

But this is moot I wouldn't raise children who sneak into others homes or children who sneak people in

I'm confused? You were saying she's a minor as if she was some unwilling participant. He didn't break into the house. She let him in. I'm not saying its acceptable in any sense

That's what parents do. Now, if ol' girl had showed up pregnant (or with a sullied reputation) and 17 talking about, "I ain't got no money. I ain't got no job. I ain't got no where to go. Can I stay with you, daddy?" Then what? Too late for daddy to react then. And since ol' girl was sneaking...then she obviously knew she was doing something wrong. Daddy had the right idea. Since the boy walked away alive, daddy had pretty good handle on his emotions.

I disagree. Short term yeah it looks good. Long term, doesn't look so good. Being charged with aggravated assault and then to perhaps end up with a record? :nono:

I didn't say for him to do nothing. As someone else said he could have detained him, called the police. He could even had threatened him. If he goes to jail, his knocked up daugther won't even have a chance to bring her pregnant self to his door.

But I don't care that much. I don't have to visit him or pay his legal fees.

I'm saying she doesn't have right to consent and is responsible for punishment that they both received. So even if ole boy reported dad to police the daughter should not be a willing witness.

The law should be the least of their worries. She needs to figure out her living arrangements and he needs to seek shelter with relatives down south. My crazy relatives don't play that ****. Go away to college if you feeling ripe but play your role in your parents home.
