I just purchased a bottle and I am not sure how to use it. I have seen some ladies mention it here on the board. I was going to part my hair and oil y scalp with it every other day or so. I want something for my scalp, I don't like grease. Can anyone who uses this help and tell me what are the benefits? Thank you

If you're going to use it every other day, you may also want to wash your hair every other day. Piling this stuff on won't make your hair smell very good. Oiling yoru scalp with it once a week is a good norm.

Since a very small amount of this goes a long way, you'll still get the benefits.

Also, make sure you rinse this out of your hair good, as one rinse without a wash may not get it all out. I learned that the hard way.

I oiled my hair with it before and it is a very heavy oil but I think the benefits are great. But as Boadicea said, it takes some washing to rinse the oil out. When I used CON the oil was still in my hair.

I remember reading that it is supposed to be good for root strengthening. I know its main ingredient is mineral oil. I have a bottle but I only use it on my babys hair, at this time.

I do the same thing with all my Indian oils--I massage my scalp with it for few minutes, apply it to the length of my hair, put on a plastic cap and a Turbie Twist and shampoo it out in the morning.

I use this oil just like I would any other oil. I never just rinse it right out. The smell doesn't bother me at all and my hair really benefits from it alot.

I used this oil has a pre-shampoo treatment. I would let is 'soak in' for several hours or either overnight and then shampoo it out.

I wet my hair, apply it and leave it on for a couple of hours. Then I shampoo as usual.

Like Boadicea and Nay said it takes a few washings to get it out. A little goes a long way, I learned that the hard way when I had white build up in my hair after washing it. However, I've seen an incredible amount of strength in my hair b/c when I wash it in the sink I really don't have to worry about grabbing a glop of hair out the drainer.

I prefer to use it as a hot oil treatment and make an "indian treat":

-Apply Amla Oil and Dabur Vatika Oil (w/heat under dryer 20 min or so)
-Then go to sleep with towel on pillow
-Poo in morning

alittle does go along way, adding too ur hair while its wet, and useing a cap makes my hair really soft, and silky but alot of ppl cant take the smell so dont use too much, u can do scalp massages with it then raise out, but I have not tried that

So would you say that leaving this oil on only as an overnight pre poo treatment provides as much benefit as not washing it out for ...say a week, until your next shampoo?

I ordered the Dabur Amla Hair Oil a few days ago and I should have it in my posession to use by the next time I shampoo. However, I'm contemplating if I should apply it only as a pre 'poo treatment or if I should apply after I shampoo and leave on during the week? I know that it has a strong smell, but I'm sure it'll fade/lessen as the days go on...I'd just consider it a sacrifice for beautiful hair, lol. But if using it as a pre 'poo treatment will give me the same results then I can just do that instead.

If no one has any opinions on this, then I guess I'll just have to find out through experimentation. Thanks in advance!

Funny that you should mention it. Some of friends who just happens to be Indian/Sri Lanka descent said that they can't stand the smell of it.

I have this oil and just use it whenever (the pj in me has just too much stuff!).

When I use it, I oil my scalp and hair and I don't wash it out until my next wash. I usually do this on freshly washed hair and at night. So by morning, the smell is not so strong.

Thanks Nijilah! I look forward to using this oil.

I appreciate your input...your response was very helpful.

I bought my Amla at fromnaturewithlove.com, I mixed it with the Surge Oil to cut the smell some..sad to say, it didn't work, the smell subsided as the day went by..that evening I mixed it with WGO and applied wrapped my hair in a silk scarf, got up in the morning hardly no smell....there's my two cent

I don't know but I know if you go to an Indian grocery store or any store catered toward the Indian culture you should be able to find it there...

I just tried this stuff as a conditioner after washing with nutrine garlic shampoo and using ao gpb overnight. My hair definitely feels stronger but the smell of this stuff is no joke! I certainly don't like it but it's not bad enough to keep me from using it again.

Which is more effective? Leaving it on overnight then washing the hair or washing the hair first then apply the oil to the hair and scalp? For those who have tried both methods, which do you like best?

I always mix my dabur alma with castor oil/coconut or olive oil then apply it to dry hair, i leave it on anywhere from 1-2 hours w/con cap, no heat. I shampoo over it with con or Elasta (creme conditioing poo's) without suplhates and the results are amazing it "seals in moisture" leaving my hair shiny, soft and sikly feeling (and this is after shampooing twice). lastly i deep condition as usual and i still maintain the same results.

I like using it as hot oil treatment...and washing it out. In the Summer...my hair can get super dry...so I like using it on my ends as a leave-in. It has a lot of other additives...so I think it's better as a wash out treatment (for me anyway).
