Cutting and Layering Hair: How!?

So, I'm wanting to help myself by actually trying a weave again. I've had terrible problems with itchies and allergic reactions to the hair on my scalp.

I've been reading some very helpful threads. Now I know brand and length I usually go for with weave hair.

My big question is how do you cut the hair in to a particular layered style so that it looks more professional. I want a soft layer natural long haired look.

How do you create the look? I'm looking for directions or video. TIA
