i do a modified version of the curly girl routine.

i CW daily and shampoo/deep condition once a week.
i do not completely avoid all cones. i will use products that have water soluble cones.

I tried to search too and I couldn't find it. But I'll tell you what I know...

I've been doing the Curly Girl method for about 5 months now. Basically you use conditioners to rinse your hair daily or a few times a week. The conditioners the author advises to use are those that do not have silicones in them like VO5 or Suave. She goes through the different hair types and methods that work best for each type. The basic thing is doing the conditioner washes whenever you wash and then clarifying with a baking soda mix instead of using a shampoo. I actually do use shampoo every once in a while (castile soap) so I'm not following it exactly.

Some of the other ladies who use it can tell you about what they do as well :)

If you do a google or yahoo search for "curly girl routine" quite a few sites pop up, notably www.naturallycurly.com. I tried the no-poo, no-cones routine for about 3 months and it just didn't work for me. I think because I'm relaxed and trying hard to get and keep hair straight, the curly girl routine was not for me. If I even go textured or natural, probably work great, but not on my 4b relaxed hair.

I found I REALLY dislike my hair with no-poo 'cause it would become so limp and life-less by the 2nd or 3rd CO, but when I use 'poo, voila! it would literally wake up with body and bounce. I don't know why that is for me and I tried tons of different condish and dilutions and potions and combinations, whatever ('cause I really like the concept of no poo) but it just don't work for me, so I stopped trying and went back to pooing once a week -- my hair trives on this! I also did the no-cone thing, which is OK and I still limit my use of 'cones, but when I really want to avoid the frizzies and get my hair bone straight, 'cones are the bomb (gotta clarify even now and then tho). Just my experience . . .

I think you have a point. It might be harder to do no 'poo with relaxed hair. With curly hair, which can have a frizz problem, the conditioner is beneficial to calming the hair down. W/relaxed, the hair is already calmed down and usually needs more body and volume, not less.

I'm interested in seeing what no poo does to my 1/4 natural, 3/4 relaxed hair.
