For ladies with 3c/4a hair do you have to moisturize intensely for your curls to pop. Like if your hair is dry do you have a frizzy poofy mess and when it is moisturized you have curls? Just wondering

Yup, my hair is exactly like that:yep: My hair has to be loaded down with leave-in before it starts clumping into nice little curls. But my hair feels nicer when there's not so much stuff in it, *sigh*.

not really. after i cowash, i leave some of the conditioner (usually aussie moist) in and then soak some of the water up with a t-shirt so it doesn't frizz up. when it airdries, it's never frizzy or poofy. it usually resembles this:

No. My hair is always curly even when dry.

3c/4a can be radical different from person to person. some people are 98%3c and 2% 4a and others are 98% 4a and 2% 3c.

No my hair will curl regardless but after I moisturize the curls will be smoother and less frizzy.

I think this is the problem. I think the 4a sections need that moisture whereas the 3c section water will do it.....boy I wish it would be one or the other!!!

Well I never tried leaving anything in there and I think it was SERIOUSLY dry because I was using crap in a bottle for shampoo, no conditioner, and nothing to moisturize....just the crap in a bottle shampoo!

I know plenty of people, including myself who never see the potential of their curls until they get their moisture level up. But my hair is moisturized all the time now but isn't always curly. It really matters what I have been doing with my hair. If I want my curls to be "poppin" or to look like they do when wet then I will need some Eco Styler gel. It is the only thing that gives me great, shiny, frizz free curls anytime I use it.

I was wondering this because currently I am transitioning and the last time I tried it didn't work out because I didn't know what to do, what to use, how to style it or what. Also I had some crazy textures going on in my head!! The back was big curls like 3b/3c, the middle and sides were tighter curls like 3c and then the front was soft frizz like 4a with no curl definition really!! It was nutty so I was like let me slap a relaxer in this!! The other day when I took my braids down and washed I used the moisture milks condish and my hair was soooo soft (loved it) but peculiarly the new growth was well defined whereas when I put it in the braids it was dry and frizzy! So I was just wondering can moisturizing correctly make your curls pop if you have some weird in between texture.

My hair sans loads of conditioner:

This is my hair washed, deep conditioned, conditioned and sealed with jojoba oil. My hair was 10 inches stretched at the time, and I was tired and on the phone with my dad and just left it be, and this is what I ended up with. I absolutely must use googobs of conditioner for it to be anything other than this.

I don't have curl definition even when my hair is super healthy and moisturized. Since I started using henna, my hair hangs differently. It seems more 3b/3c now.

Sometimes. I touch it a lot and it ends up turning frizzy. But even if it's parched it still curls it just looks duller. Plus some parts are already frizzy no matter what I do.

I get my best curls by cowashing and using Direct Leave in.. my hair is curly wet or dry but it doesn't frizz at all with the leave in

i always have curls, but if a use a moisturizing product then the curls will be more uniform(zero frizz) and more "shiny"

I think it depends on the hair. I know some people that can just throw water on their hair and have the most perfect curls, coils or spirals...but if I tried that fuggedaboutit!!!! I need to throw some curl junkie up in this head!

My curls are pretty defined regardless of what I do. But my moisture level usually determines whether my hair will dry in a downward direction or an outward direction.

For me, to rinse with water, put in conditioner and leave a little in does the trick. I have several textures in my head like many others, so I will not EVER have "uniform" curls so to speak. If I want to create the "illusion" of uniform curls, then I will use paul mitchel the one condish after a co-wash and "scrunch" a little ecostyler clear gel in my hair to set it. After that, I have to let it air dry, not touching it to have the most frizz free curls. However, I am prone to liking the frizz and whatnot, b/c I like big hair. So I'm cool with it either way :)

They're defined when wet and if I don't apply a leave in WHILE wet, the appearence gets a bit dull and the curls aren't as defined.

They WILL frizz if I touch them up too much, dry OR moisturized. Moisturized means they'll get more stretch and spring before frizz but it still will. Dry? Psh. Frizz city.

Im pretty sure Im the 98%4a and 2% 3c with some 4b sprinkled about like pixy dust:lachen:

When I first started co-washing my curls didnt really pop. after about 2 weeks of co-washing every other day, I stepped outta the shower one day and literally startled (sp?) myself when I looked in the mirror! My fro had begun to look more like a MUSHROOM! lol there was curls everywhere and it was hangin like crazy!! So yea I think that for the most part black womens hair is so dry all the time that when it DOES start to get moisturized on the regular it sort of "takes a breather" so-to-speak.

I know thats how I am when Im hungry, all grumpy and tense and uptight. but as soon as somebody slaps that yummy food in my face Im just as jolly as can be...... then ready to take a nap:lachen::lachen:

I notice that a lot of my curls just grow out in clumps with no product but it's when you start brushing the and stuff that it frizzes up. Then water is needed to make them clump up again.:yep:

When i first found LHCF I wasn't cowashing but I could see my texture but after about a month of cowashing moisture/protein balance it was more manageable and the curls more noticeable. When I first BC'd I had curls but now a month later they are hanging better and more defined with or without loads of product. The front is frizzy and will always be frizzy, the back frizzs with manipulation. I want ultimate curl definition then I need to use my denman.
