:) HI LHCF sisters! I want waist-length hair. That's my goal. I'm only at base of the neck (as of Jan) and I am anxious and impatient. Don't want to waste time doing something wrong. In your humble opinions....which is better for long 4a hair growth? Doing Crown N' Glory braid method or doing buns and baggies and the like longterm? Also....has anyone experienced their S/O not wanting them to wear certain styles? My S/O doesn't like my buns and he absolutely HATES braids. How do you handle that? (ulitmately the choice is mine, not his, but just wondering if anyone else's man is tripping too?) :look:

I would say do both, rotate. As for your S/O he'll get used to it after a while. Besides, you are trying to grow out YOUR hair. HTH :)

I'm not married so right now I don't have this issue. Plus I wear my hair out most of the time. Anyway if I were you do what's best for your hair, either wearing braids or buns, and take out your hair every once in a while, like every couple of weeks or so. When he sees your progress he will be more than happy with the styles you have to wear to gain that extra length and thickness. It may take a while but eventually he'll see how wonderful your hair is coming out and be okay with you keeping it out of harms way.

I'm on the bun challenge for the winter/spring and plan on getting braids for the summer/fall. My S/O hates that I wear buns; he wants me to wear my hair down. I wear my hair down when I want to wear it down. ;) Don't worry about what your S/O thinks of your hair. Do what you have to do in order to achieve your hair goals! :yep:

I am wearing buns for the winter, can't do braids because my hair is too delicate... My husband could care less.As long as it looks nice..although he is not happy with the idea of a wig....................... :D

The crown and glory method that I TRY to do is 2 months of braids and 2 months off, which is what is recommended on growingafrohairlong. This way you could do both. You can do the bun thing during your two months off and you'll have the best of both worlds.

You've gotten great advice from the above ladies, so I have nothing to add with regard to braids or buns. But about your S/O...he will likely initially be a little put off but in time I bet he'll come around. For a few weeks after I bc'd my husband was looking at me like :nono: At first I felt a little sad :( But then I just let it go and stayed focused on my hair goals. Now sometimes out of the corner of my eye I see him looking at me like this  again. I wish you all the best.

Yea I would say you’d have more fun doing them both. My husband likes my braids more because I can wear them in so many different styles. I wouldn't tell you not to worry about how he feels, but I can say that he will probably get used to it and learn to like it :yep:. Either way let him know that it's just short term and that in no time you'll have the long flowing hair that you so desire!!!

Thank you ladies. I am going to go ahead and get the braids and follow the cng technique 2 mos. on 2 mos. off and bun-it in between. I think you all are right....he'll get used to it. Much luv and huggs to Hopeful, Melswifey, MissDiva, Lkg4HealthyHair, Poobear, RabiaElaine, & BlessedAngil03! :p I am so excited!
I am going to be WORKING IT! He'll see!
:bdance: :bdance:

Thanks MissDiva. Hey, are you doing your own cng braids (following her video) or are you having them professionally done? Also, if you get them done by someone else, do you have guidelines you make sure they follow so the braids are done like the cng method?

I think you should switch up,to reduce your incidence of breakage from either technique.:yep:

I haven't been bunning it, and I'm 8 weeks post. I do super moisturize at night, and clip it up under a satin bonnet and scarf, and I do my CO washes 6 days a week. My S/O loves "Pocahontas" braids where I part my hair down the middle and have a plait on each side. I don't like them-I think they look kinda weird on me. He also likes it when I put my hair in like 8 braids for a braid-out. He doesn't like weaves of any kind, and gets mad if I cut or trim my hair in any way. He says he doesn't understand why women want to grow their hair but insist on trimming-he says every time it grows, we cut the same amount or more off...which is true in many cases. His mother has virgin hair that grazes her waist (she's African-American), and never really trimmed-which is probably the reason for his sentiment. It doesn't look scraggly either...she just gets a wash and very light press every couple of weeks or once a month...

Anyway, just do styles according to how your hair acts. I don't currently wear braids or protective styles (I wear my hair out everyday), but when and if my new growth gets to be too much to handle, and I end up breaking a comb off in my hair (which I've done before after braids), then I'll be getting some cornrows with a quickness!

Good Point. I have been bunning it since mid-Jan. and I am concerned about what that is doing to my back. Thanks. :(

Thanks Jewell. My hair is not nearly as long as yours yet so I am lacking in the versatility department. It's going to be either braids or buns. Braid-outs at my length look silly on me. A couple more inches and I can do braid-outs and still reflect some length. But, I guess every S/O is different. Mine hates fake hair yet he prefers mine to be flowing and straight (which can only be achieved by blowdrying and flat/curl-ironing. But, these ladies are right....I am trying to grow my hair out for me and, if there are some techniques he may not like, he will have to accept them because I am working on a persoal goal.

Before I knew that buns were a means of protective styling, I used to bun my hair ALL OF THE TIME. Then I started noticing breakage in the crown area, and for the life of me, I could not understand why. Since I am natural, I hardly ever wear my hair bunned.

YOU GROW GIRL!!! You have to do what works for you, and if that means braiding, bunning, bantu knots, whatever-by all means do it. If you find something that works for your hair, by all means stick with it...that was a hard lesson for me to learn! :p
