I have never tried crochet braids. I don't even know anything about them, lol. But I saw this hair style below plus I saw our very own board member bajandoc86 with them here and I was sold! :yep: I would love to try them now.

Any more tips for crochet braids with marley hair? I'll like to install a set to look like the picture above

i am not too sure about marley hair, it is extremely rough and dry, i think it would suck all of the natural oil out of my hair and by it rubbing against my hair it would eventually damage my hair. IMO

That is really cute. If you wash and condition the hair before installing and keep your hair and the marley hair moisturized you should be fine. I've used marley braid hair for kinky twists and flat twist and haven't had a problem.

I've never done a crochet braid install so no tips there.

I had marley crochet back in March. Fastest, cheapest, install ever.

Since I wanted a SL, I just cut the hair in half and it took one pack! About 4hrs to install including cornrowing time.

I needed a more streamlined look for work, so I separated out the chuncks of hair so they didnt seem so loc-ish.

My suggestion is you get a spray and oil it nightly. They can get dry and itchy real fast. Keeping it up at night is a must. I missed the boat on that one night and it was matted in the morning. Took ages to brush it out with a wig brush.

Washing my scalp was annoying because the pulled apart hairs wanted to mat regardless (but not as much as when I slept on it) at the root.

If you dont fant apart the chunks, I doubt the matting probs I had will be much of an issue for you.

Cowashing your own hair underneath and sealing the cornrows will be essential gn1g is correct that it can really suck the moisture out your real hair

I have been wanting to try this style for the longest. Even bought the hair...it's still in my closet. Maybe I'll try it this weekend.

I currently am in marley crochet braids and I love them. I think marley hair look natural on their own. When people see me, they ask me how long did it take me to grow my hair and am I natural. I have to stop them and tell them I am natural but this is not my hair. It's crochet braids. They're shocked when I tell them. LOL

Maybe Aviah can give us some tips.

I'm not usually a fan of Marley hair for crochet braids but these are :lick:.

Thanks for the tag faithVA, but I've never done them with marley hair. What I can recommend though, is adding a little at a time, as the hair is so bulky it's pretty easy to end up with too much, and to keep moisturized as the others have said.

The last time I did them (in my siggy) I did the straight back braids, but with a braid starting at the side part, around the perimeter and then straight back to add hair to. I didn't have braids showing when the wind blew it back- if you know what I mean? I hope this makes sense.

ETA: It looks like the original pic has hair left out at the perimeter.

^^Thanks for responding. Your install looks fabulous. It definitely motivates me to try it one day.

I really like them because it matches my color & is close to my texture. It's not perfect but it looks natural. People think this is my hair & I have no leave out. It is all protected and the older it looks the better.
My tips are to find a color that matches, comb the hair before putting it in to get a more natural look. Keep your hair moisturized & condition regularly.
