It's been approximately nine weeks since my last relaxer...I still do the same thing I have done to it when it was fresh out of a relaxer...but two nights ago i washed and had unneccessary breakage could this be because of tons of new growth that is not as moisturized as the rest of the hair? I just recently got into this better taking care of air thin and Ive turned into a product junkie as well..Please help.

I think the board can help you to pinpoint the reasons for your breakage if you post your regime.

Hi raslat, welcome to the forum!!

When I'm nine weeks post relaxer I see alot of "hair". I'm not sure whether it's really breakage. I think more so shedding.

I try not to manipulate my hair much during these times - which means updo's. Normally, past ten weeks I "try" to shampoo once a week, use a mild protein conditioner to keep my hair strong, followed by a moisturizer conditioner. I either air dry or blow dry, pin up and leave it alone.

This week, at 9 1/2 weeks and I had to relax before my usual 12/14 weeks. I had to much outgrowth and I was afraid to shampoo my hair because of the tangles. The "hair" thing stopped.

I think if the breakage bothers you and you have a really hard time handling your hair then you should get it done.

well I have an appointment for saturday..I waited this long because I didnt have a hairdresser. I realized that it is just shedding and my new sytlist(who is amazing) told me the same thing. If I see this persists after saturday then I know I need to work on it. Thanks.

Check for white bulbs at the end of this breakage. It could be normal shedding. Also if you put your hair into styles that require little combing or manipulation, when you finally do style your hair, accumulated shedding hair will result.

If that's not the case you may be relaxing your hair so straight that the difference between the straight and newgrowth are so drastic that your hair pops when you comb it. I know that unless your hair grows an inch per month, popping should not be happening unless you are ill (not necessarily a cold). I know that when I cut my relaxed ends off and had 3 inches of newgrowth, my hair was shedding more but not to the point where I should be scared.

not the case. The last time I got a relaxer it was terrible. Two weeks after getting a touch up my hair was not looking like it was just relaxed. that was since the 19th of July. Im getting a relaxer this weekend so ill see if i still have some breakage. I know some is shedding but i have a few that isnt. after this weekend Ill update u ladies. thanks

I've been going through some breakage myself. I see the white bulbs on my strands. I hate to wash my hair because I see more hair then. I'm not sure of my problem either. I have been using the B&B Oil Moisturizer with Castor Oil and I have noticed less shedding when I comb my hair to style. Tonight I'll wash my hair and see what happens. I just got the Oil Moisturizer last Tuesday.
