Hello ladies,

I know... long time no hear from. Just busy, but I do stop in to read or I guess that's called lurk. Anyway, I took down my braids yesterday after two months. Had some shedding, not a whole lot I guess. I'm contemplating going back to Soft and Beautiful and leaving Affirm.

Remember I told you about my daughter's hair and the breakage at the nape and in the crown? Well I did her relaxer about two weeks ago and did the S&B, her hair looks absolutely beautiful despite the short areas.

I did notice that at the nape where it's growing back it looks so so thick. There's a lot of little white tips on the hairs back there which someone said indicate new hairs (the ends look singed). She's not experiencing any breakage from the ends so, so far so good. Her problem is she doesn't want to wash it every week and that she wants to flat iron it and wrap it. I've told her a million times not to wrap in the same direction.

And her hair is already past her shoulders, I've been growing my hair since 2002 and just got it past my shoulders, her hair was cut up to the ears in 2004 and already it's longer than mine. Oh well.

I have to make a decision today because I have to travel to ATL on Wednesday and must have this wig together. Decisions decisions. Should I stay with the Affirm or go? I did finally (thanks to you ladies for the suggestions) get the Positive Link conditioner so maybe my hair will thicken up.

Oh well I'll let you know how it turns out.

Depends on your hair. For me, I did not have positive results with Affirm. Over time, it thinned my hair and rendered it lifeless and limp. So have had great experiences with Affirm.

Finding a relaxer for your hair is basically a trial and error situation. What may have worked great on someone else's head may not render great results with you.

ITA, you must do what works best for you. Maybe I missed it in your post, but what are your reasons for wanting to change relaxers?

As far as relaxers thinning hair, keep in mind the relaxer strength. You many need a regular in one brand and a mild in another. I currently use a mild and it works well for me. Also, remember that certain areas of your hair are less resistant than others. For example, I relax the nape area almost last and some portions of my nape are not relaxed at all, because it's so soft.

Thanks Fashion and Kitchentician,

I went ahead and believe it or not let the salon do my hair. I did do the realxer myself the day before and used Affirm Resistant. The lady who did the relaxer said this was way too strong for even my coarse hair. She said she would have put a mild "low-lye" on my hair. If anyone has E_V_E_R hear of that let me know. She said she wants to take care of my hair to get it trained and that it has too much protein. I have been using the ORS olive oil conditioner and the Aussie 3 minute reconstructor. But.....after she roller set and sort of bumped my hair, i thought it looked way dried out and not straight at all. She said this was a result of my hair being over processed. Now, mind you I did this relaxer and it was not over processed. She later after putting very little oil on my hair told me that I would have healthier hair if I let her take care of it. Now I came home put some oil in my hair and flat ironed it and it looked 200% better. Go figure

I've never heard of Affirm in low-lye. Maybe she just meant mild, because it has a lower percentage of lye than the regular and super. :ohwell:

The only lo lye relaxer I've heard of is by Design Essentials.

what is a lo lye????????? I've never heard of that. My stylist used to use design essentials on me a long time ago.
