Considering a wig for winter

The weather is finally cooling down and I'm noticing that my hair feels a little dry. I'm considering wearing a wig for the winter to help keep nape damage at bay and to give me a chance to wear the bangs that I've always wanted, but won't cut into my hair because I know I'd regret it.

I'm 17 weeks post (4C) and don't plan to relax again until mid January. My regimen is simple: I cowash 2-3 times a week, deep condition weekly, MS daily. I bun most of the time, but have been wearing twist outs more that I've semi-perfected my technique. I'm open to any wisdom from people who've worn wigs for extended periods. I've posted a couple of pictures of some I've seen and like. I'm looking for something close to my natural length, but with short bangs. What should I be looking for from a wig and what pitfalls should I avoid? How do I take care of it?
