I am asking because I cannot tell from other discussions if we are all talking about the same/similar methods when it comes to bunning.

I voted "other" because my method is so different from everyone elses.

I usually, wash and airdry and stuff. But I airdry with a roller on the ends or my hair is an extremely loose ponytail (this is usually the case to prevent breakage from wet bunning).

Then once my hair is dry, everyday I moisturize, tie it with a satin scruchie, twist my ends and baggie, and repeat everyday for a week.

I don't use the donut hole, nor is my ends exposed. That my personal definition of bunning.

I chose either, because as long as it is in a bun, I don't think it matters

though I am going to start baggying becuz i just trimmed....and was not happy i had to do it.

I voted "either"

Reason being: If I wash and airdry, I put my hair in a loose ponytail and wrap my hair around it. As the days go by, I repeat those steps except at night I add a baggie to it after my ends have been moisturized. In the beginning I tried do the donut thing but that was too much work for me. When I twist/wrap my hair around my ponytail, I try to make it so that my ends are hidden. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.
If your ends are exposed are you incorrectly bunning?:scratchch

I like this thread btw:) .

I voted either even though I air dry in a bun. I take my bun down everyday and rebun the next day. I moisturize everyday also. But either way, as long as you get it up, it's a bun. Now which is method is better for your hair is a whole 'nother' question. lol

I always airdry and flat iron my roots. For me, I style my hair in a bun on occasion, especially with the bitterly colds we've been having here lately. I put my hair in a ponytail, secure with a mini scrunchie, coil my hair into a bun and secure with hair pins. I wear side buns too which I love. Sometimes at night I throw my hair up in a loose bun and secure with a large satin scrunchie too.

I airdry my wet hair pinned up, then put it in a bun later. This saves a lot of time, my hair sessions last only 1 hour nowadays:) .

I agree. "Bunning" is a style, regardless of the method used to get there - airdrying or otherwise.

I do the same thing!

I chose either. Usually I airdry with a leave-in and oils and then bun. As my new growth gets longer, I will bun damp and tie with a scarf so that the new growth dries laying down. Occasionally, I will flat-iron only once after relaxing. I bun the flat-ironed hair too. I take down all buns and remoisturize every other day. Also, I do wet buns all Summer. Did I cover everything?

I voted either also because there are times when I will wash my hair and let it airdry in a ponytail and add a phonybun and then there are times like know when I wash, rollerset, pincurl at night and in the morning put it in a bun. I am doing that because I am experimening on pincurling and getting the look that I like.

I think that the whole concept of bunning is a protective style that doesn't allow the ends to be exposed to the air (tucked away) and prevents the rubbing of clothes. Otherwise wet or dry.

So leaving your hair out in the open (especially during the cold months) is a no no right? Or is it ok when you baggie every day? And is it possible to bun with 8inch hair?

I agree that the term bunning is putting your hair in a bun regardless.. However, one way requires more manipulation, and perhaps that's what the OP was referring to. (correct me if I'm wrong Honeydew)

I voted for the first option. Wet or dry, my protective buns are simply my hair pulled back into a loose knot..... and i keep the style in for days, without combing. If i take the bun out at all throughout the week, its simply to use MTG or to moisturize the ends. I do this without using a comb and afterward gather the hair back into the bun, using my fingers. I wouldnt consider this a fancy style or anything. I do this out of ease and, at best, it looks neat.... but never glamorous.

I usually let my hair air dry at least half way in a braid before putting it up.

Me too. But in a rush I will bun super wet, only then it is such a small bun just a ponytail wrapped around itself. And if I make a mistake and dont tuck the ends completly under with no contact from the headband I use to secure it, I get funky ends that just defeats the purpose for me (which is to get it smooth).

So for people who believe that bunning is a style, do you guys also think that the ends have to be tucked away? That's always been my conundrum. I tuck my ends away to be on the safe side, but some people consider an updo to be a form of bunning, even when the ends aren't tucked away.

What say you?

Not necessarily (to me anyways). It's definitely a bonus to tuck your ends away and keep them moisturized, but I do loose messy twistout buns all the time, just by pinning the ends up. To me, the most important thing is that the hair is up, not necessarily that the ends are hidden. B/c I'm just past shoulder length and need to do everything I can to keep my ends from rubbing up against my shoulders, clothes, etc.

I chose either.... The point is to keep your hair off your neck and clothes.

Right now my hair is not long enough for a non-emaciated bun. So, I put my hair in a ponytail, put moisturizer on the tail, wrap it in a baggy, and put a phony bun on top of that. I call that bunning.
