DeQuendre, as Ms_Jennifer has pointed out, you don't need to do cornrows for a braid out. Can you do square plaits? Those work too.
I don't know how well this works, but if you can't do square plaits, perhaps you could give this tool a try. The braids in the BEFORE and AFTER shots would give you a good braid-out. I thought it was cool that the instructions suggest that one mists the hair, so damp hair should be just right. Anyone tried it?

Thanks all. Ms_Jennifer and Nonie, I can plait. Of course I don't even remember ever doing it to my own head. Is a square plait when you make a plait and then use that formed plait as the third section of hair for a plait behind it, so you are forming a chain on your head with plaits? I have done that to a niece a very long time ago. Is that what you're talking about? Thanks for all the info. I have seen that device (the Olsen twins brand) in Wal-Mart; I've wondered how well it works too. DSD, I think my next wash, I will try twists, for this remedial, cornrow-challenged soul
