Yesterday as I was washing my hair and preparing for date night when I noticed how bad my ends were tangling and snarling up (like big ol balls, it was hideous) I put in a conditioner to see if I could get them to come out and nothing doin. They were some of of the biggest knots of hair ever! I'm usually quite patient but it was driving me up the wall it was just not behaving, so snip snip and gone!

I noticed on close examination they weren't split, but really rough feeling. I don't know if that was because thats from an old relaxers previous to phyto or if I did something to them, but have always noticed how that texture was never as nice as the phyto parts even as it grew out. Maybe it was just damage that I was hanging onto*sigh* Or maybe I did damage while bunning. I really don't know (I should hope not but I'll know for sure this time around!!!)

Anyway, I'm no longer shoulder length:crying3:, but at least I know I can get there. Next go round I hope to make it with out having this craziness.

SO was in LOVE with my hair after the cut and it did swing/lay much better. He was also glad the for once on date night I wore my hair down:look:

So ladies, if you need to cut, then do it. None of us likes to kill our progress but sometimes you have to decide the health of your hair is much more important.

Well you're no longer shoulderlength but you will be again soon AND you'll have much healthier hair! So kudos to you.

Long hair is beautiful and all but those scraggly thirsty dead lookin ends people hold on to just to say their hair is ___ inches long is ridiculous... Hair health first, then length.

you know you're absolutely right! I chopped my hair off in August after it more than touching my waist.... it was ridiculous! I've never let myself get that crazy and cut my hair to like 6-7 inches before since i was younger.... but whats so funny about it all is that once i let it go, my hair isn't crunchy, nasty, knotty, or messed up so i'm quite happy with the end result even if it'll take my years and years to grow back it was just nice to let go and, just like you said, know that i can get my hair that long but in my case, without those relaxers!! ;);) great thread girl!

ps: i can definitely say i did EXACTLY that, Whimsy! I kept my hair scraggly and split just to keep length.... i'm totally out of that now!

I also gave myself a trim last night after much debate. My issue, however, were split ends. For the last couple of weeks, I've been seeing bits of hair on my hands when I style and after examining my ends, they were definately split. I cut about 1/2-1 inch of hair all over. Now I'm back at shoulder length. Since it seems as if I'm proned to splits so I plan on babying my ends. I'm sure by the end of the year, we will have are length back plus more since our ends are healthy now.

Thanks for the props, ladies!

Cutting and drying and curling my hair yesterday made me see oh yeah, my hair had gotten plenty thick when I previously hadn't felt that way before. I had to stop quite a few times just because of arm fatigue:lol: It was always thick but wow, it was rather alarming how much hair I had left to deal with.

I used my nearly never used tourmaline curling iron at 125 degrees and my hair came out banging! (granted, I know thats low by many standards but I've never needed much heat for my hair to curl)

Today, even my products seem to even work better with that hair gone too so there's something to be said about giving your hair a little cut now and then.

BTW Pattycake, I also debated a little even though them knots was staring me right in the face! healthy ends are much better to have period, and hopefully I'll have better success this time around when I get back to shoulder length.
