Hi ladies,

Just recently i got a relaxer put in my virgin hair. My relaxer came out beautiful. My mother did everything right. We put it on for the recommended time. I noticed that the more conditioning I did to my hair, the more silky it would get and soft. I do believe that conditioning your hair everyday will improve the texture by so much. I deep condition it everyday and then leave a leave in conditioner in it. I also make sure I wet my hair everytime I take a shower. Ladies listen to my advice, if it can work for me, it can work for anybody.

You shouldn't "deep" condition everyday. Over time, your hair will become too soft and eventually break.

Using an instant 2-minute conditioner everyday and deep conditioning once a week sounds better.

Carla (or any 4 A/B RELAXED).....
Please, please, please explain to me how you can wet (either wash or condition) your hair everyday

I would be absolutely bald!!!! Does this not cause you to loose excessive hair?? It's probably just be me. My hair tangles way too easy and manipulating it too much would cause detrimental breakage. If any of you started with hair like what I have just described please let me know what regime you used to change things. My goal right now is more strength than length. I like to experiment with color, cuts, and things of that nature. So I just want to strengthen my hair primarily. I do use Aphogee Damage Treatment (the stinky stuff that gets hard) I may need to use it more frequently than every 6 weeks though. Your input is definitely welcome!!!

Tracy - I do a conditioner wash every other day and rinse every day without excessive hair loss. Key tricks to prevent massive tangling have been using Conair's Shower Comb and combing right before rinsing out the conditioner. I overall found that as long as i comb the hair when it has the most slip, the less hair i lose. HTH

What is your styling process after that? Do you airdry? Once you comb with the conditioner in and then rinse do you basically hand manipulate your hair into your desired style?

It's not just you I too am a 4A/B and could not do this everyday. Make sure NOT to use the Aphogee too much if you have a lot of breakage try using the Nexxus Emergencee or Elucence Moisture Remedy Treatment or Elasta QP Breakage Control Serum once a week. These protein treatments use wheat protein instead of animal protein and is easier on your hair.

I notice that you just got a relaxer for the first time so things may be working out well, but PLEASE watch out for the warnings these ladies have posted. Most of us have been relaxed for years... as for me, it's been more than 15 years (I'm 31).

Don't start off doing to much. Let it do it's thing. Being that you have untouched hair... I'm sure your hair was/is super strong right now.

Regarding the aphoghee treatment, you should not put it in her hair (or any other high protein treatment) more than once per month. Too much can damage your hair (excessive dryness, breakage, etc.). If you want to use something on a more frequent basis, I would suggest Nexxus Keraphix every 3rd week and than the aphoghee every 6 weeks.

wetting my hair everyday does not make my hair bald. I just like to run it through water. Even though my hair is relaxed, it's very healthy and i'm really loving it. I put a leave in conditioner in it everyday, I hardly ever use a curling iron because my hair curls very nicely without it. infact, any of you ladies can get your hair curly without a curling iron. All you need is pink oil lotion. Part your hair into eight sections and braid each section very tight. Before you braid, you have to put the pink oil on each section. When you wake up in the morning your hair will be so curly.

I am soooo scared to try this. I was brought up under the belief that if you wet your hair too often it would strip the relaxer. How do you manipulate your wet hair? Maybe I can try this once my hair is a little stronger

Does it give you curls or crinkles?

you can't really strip a relaxer

... it permanently changes your hair. The only way to get rid of it...is to cut it out <smiles>.

I use to do this when I was relaxed. I lived in Florida so I could wet my hair everyday and not worry about getting a cold. I did not go bald either and my hair became very healthy also. I would use regular conditioner as a leave in.

My hair would wave up but not curl. After doing this for a while I decided to go natural.

Deep Conditioning does help the texture of my hair. I try to do it once a week.

Tracy21 .. Have you decided whether you wanted to try the frequent washing technique?

You should check out this thread re daily washing: Daily washing

After reading this thread I decided to try this technique. So far so good. I'm in my 11 week of my relaxer and hope to get a relaxer soon .. so since I washed my hair last nite .. i will not be washing it between now and when I get my touch up on hopefully Tuesday...

LengthWanted,
I have not decided yet. My heart races everytime I think about it. I will be getting a touch up on Saturday. Since I am fairly new to this board (about 1 mo.) I thought that I should get a fresh touch up and start to gauge everything (growth, health, etc.) from that point on. I will post a picture of my beginning state after Saturday. I am also fearful because I am beginning to suspect that (in fact I am almost sure) that I have overprocessed hair. So I am trying to see how this would benefit or hurt me. I read somewhere on a post that overprocessing could be a reason why my hair tangles so easy. I don't know.... I am so confused.

Also, concerning the overprocessed hair... am I fighting a losing battle trying to maintain it or should I cut?

I think that cutting the overprocessed hair would be best. It actually causes problems with the rest of yout hair being that It may require a different kind of attention than the healthier strands.
I'm still cutting mine offand i cut maybe an inch every other month. The big chop is not for me!

Yeah... I am afraid of the big chop too... I don't want to go into cardiac arrest. Thanks for your response sounds like that is what I am going to have to do.
