After you've applied a permanent color to your hair and say you want to keep this color for the rest of your life; is there ever a reason to re-color the hair that has been previously colored or should you always only do the new growth?

I just read that oils can leech color out of the hair, if this is so how do you maintain the integrity of your haircolor w/o re-coloring it?

TIA

When I had colored hair, I applied the color to the new growth initially, and then I combed the color down over the previously colored hair for the last 5 minutes or so of the process to give the color a boost.

This is what the directions in my coloring kit said to do. As for maintaining the color, using shampoo/conditioner made for color treated hair helps a lot.

I'm not due for a color touch-up right now, but I just wanted to know for that time.
