I want to change my haircolor and get some gold highlights through it. the thing is when i bleach my hair the roots and ends process way faster than the middle so i wont have an even tone. i know how to process the middle then the roots and ends but my hair processes so fast i dont think i would have enough time. i get my highlights done with foil and i was thinking that if i get it done with the cap instead i could get an even tone. what do you guys think?

The roots process faster because it's warm at the scalp and the ends process faster most likely because they are porous....

So...

I WOULD use a cap and carefuly apply the color (I don't recommend bleach, it's more damaging than permie color and it processes like LIGHTENING but if you are comfortable working with it, and you know your hair will tolerate it then do) this way:

pull the hair you want higlighted through the cap, clip the hair you pulled out into three sections from front to back (or whatever, how you section it is less important than that you work with smallish sections) and then, holding the hair up and aay from the scalp almost like you would during a rollerset, apply the CAREFULLY apply the color to the middle of the strand FIRST. Let it process most of the way (and if it won't lift as far as you want to go I say just take the rest of your hair to that color rather than risk damage and a real mess on your hands) and THEN apply it to the ends. Once the ends have lifted to where the middle is shadewise, THEN apply the color to the roots. The processing there should take NO LONGER than five minutes. Watch it all veeeery carefully.

Finish with a rinse in a complimentary shade - and VIOLA!

Now - sounds easy, right? IT'S NOT! Enlist the help of a friend. Wipe a little color off the middle portion of the strand as it's processing to get a semi-accurate sense of the color you've achieved.

That last ten minutes you have to watch it like a hawk.If you use bleach you might miss it - since bleach processes SO much more quickly. If you use permie color the whole process should take no longer than the time indicated on the box. I'm envisioning 10 minutes for the middle of the strand, about 7 for the ends and 3 for the roots for a total of 20 minutes. But again - be veeeery careful. And use a non-ammoinia color and a brush and color mixing bowl for more accuracy as you apply the color.

Live long and prosper. And may the force be with you...

And yes - pulling long hair through a cap is akin to plucking pubes...

Ciao

thanks, ive had my hair bleached a couple times before and i know alot of ladies swear against bleach but it has never done me any harm. right now my hair has black semi permanent color in it because i covered up the red highlights i got. i think ill just let the black fade out and then get a permanent color to go over the red cuz it will still show up. do you think a clarifying shampoo will help get rid of the black semipermanent color?
