I have been trying ot find this for awhile now. For those of you that use it...where do you purchase it? What brand? Anyone have a pic?

The best coconut oil I've ever used was bought from Puritan Pride (www.puritan.com). It's expensive but very good. I've also used coconut oil from the Vitamin Shoppe and health food stores in my City. I don't usually look for a particular brand when purchasing coconut oil.

I purchased it from a grocery store in the area called GIANT or it's at Walgreens. It's by Pro-line and comes in a small container, very cheap, too!

I was thinking it would be liquid. Maybe I should try some of these in the jar. Thanks ladies?

The coconut oil that I bought IS liquid, but it becomes solidified when it's kept in the fridge. I got mine from a health food store and I doubt that one brand is better than the next, because it's just oil, not a mixture, ya know?

I bought some virgin coconut oil Puritan's Pride. It was solid but melted easily.
There are differences between some brands because I bought Parachute brand and the smell was sickening to me. These are both food grade.

What effects has iot had on your hair for the ladies that are using it. IN your opinon is it betetr than Shea butter oil?

I can't compare to shea butter, but I used to use CO in my air, with a mixture of other essential oils as a pre-poo. My hair was always super soft...but pre-poos are too time consuming, so I stopped.

I really, really liked how my hair felt after a pre-poo with coconut milk (yes, the same kind you cook with)...uber soft and shiny

You can get coconut oil from Whole Foods Store. :yep: That's where I got mine from and my hair really liked it. :weird:

Hello,
I spent some serious $$$ on cocnut oil two years ago from Tropical traditions online. There was this weight loss technique involving eating a table spoon or two per day to boost metabolism and loose 1-2 pounds per week. Something about it being a medium chain fatty acid. Anyhow for daily use on the hair check Walmart. $2.49 for a quart sized plastic jar. found in the cooking oil isle.

I use the Parachute brand too. Thats funny you don't like the smell! It doesn't bother me. (i hope i'm not walking around smelling funny!) lol

I think it has a nutty smell. If fact, I use it all over my body in place of lotion and I use it on my hair.

I pay $2.50 for about 12ozs! Yep, $2.50! :) I buy it from an Indo/Paki store in my neighborhood. This Indian girl that I work with has very pretty hair and skin and she recommended this brand. She said a lot of indian women use this on their hair. She saturates her hair with the oil at night and washes it out in the morning.

I don't know if it's refine or unrefined, but it been working for me.
HTH.

I use Dabur Anmol Pure Coconut Oil. I usually just mix it with my Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Treatment and use as a pre-poo.

IMO I like using shea butter in the winter and coconut oil in the warmer seasons. Shea butter tends to drip down my face and that is a big no-no for me. I like coconut oil because it is light and absorbed more readily in my hair than shea butter. Shea butter tends to sit a while longer. But I love using it in the winter since the weather is harsh in my area.

IMO coconut and shea are different so its hard to compare. But I agree that coconut absorbs better than any other oil I have come across. Shea is great for really dry thick hair. But shea does not give ur hair the type of shine that coconut oil does. Most of my hair mixes includes both along w/other stuff.

Eastern Indian women use coconut oil religiously. Their claim is that it stimulates the scalp and promotes hair growth. If you've noticed, most East Indian women have beautiful lush heads of hair!

Personally I don't think one is better than the other. Used together or seperate they could only enhance the appearance and health of your hair ;)

Yep. My coworker has lovely hair.

I bought some coconut oil from Wal-mart for approx. $2.80. I've never used shea butter oil so, I can't compare the two.

I wonder if some in this thread are talking about REAL coconut oil or the kind that you buy in the drug store that has a lot of other stuff in it (mineral oil, etc.).

For those that use the liquid kind--do you ever apply it as a liquid or just let it harden?

I let it solidify because I can control the amount. The coconut oil I have is in a glass jar and it is organic. Unfortunately it is refined.

My unrefined coconut oil is solid at room temperature; is this the same for other people? If this is so, do you continuously heat it before you use it? I find it to be a pain to do so, which is why I just stick to jojoba oil...

My unrefined coconut oil is solid except in the summer. I believe coconut oil melts at 76 degrees or something like that. When I use it, I just put some in my hands and let my body heat melt it.

Some are talking about "coconut oil" grease. But mine is 100% virgin. Now that the weather is warmer it's beginning to change from solid. I mainly use it solid, but I have mixed some of the melted oil in my spray bottle of water.
