Coconut oil on newgrowth

This is for the ole' heads...and new ones too. Remember way back when some people reported putting coconut oil on the newgrowth during rollersetting that this resulted in newgrowth that was a little more "straight" (i.e - less wavy)?

Is anyone still doing this? I was thinking of going back to it now that I use wire mesh rollers. I figure that the tension from the rollers and the coconut oil will result in my newgrowth being straighter and it will stay this way longer between washes.

I believe you are referring to the coconut milk and lime mixture that is supposed to loosen the curls in your hair, there are several threads about this.

Nope...it's not the coconut milk/lime mixture. I clearly remember that one. Can't say that I've tried it though but there are many reviews on it.

I'm specifically talking about coconut OIL. Coconut oil on the roots, a taught rollerset and mild heat resulted in newgrowth that was actually a bit straight.

I guess I'm the only one that remembers this and probably the only one that will be doing it too!

i actually used coconut oil to soften my hair during my 11 week stretch, and it did soften the new growth at the top of my head. but the "kitchen" was another story :D

I used to use a concoction of coconut oil, WGO, and castor oil. I would add this to my hair throughout the week at night when I would roll my hair and my new growth was softer and straighter in the morning. :yep:

I vaguely remember this since I used to mix melted coconut oil and a little castor oil together then blow dry and I got good results. But then I got addicted to blow drying for a minute.
