She's a long haired diva too and she high lighted her hair this summer, but just 4 small sections. It's so pretty. I've wanted high lights forever, but never wanted to risk the damage, but hey how much damage can 4 high lighted sections cause?

Very tempting indeed...

I have wanted highlights forever also but I am so worried about it hurting my hair. I wanted just to do the top layers of my hair and leave the bottom alone but I don't know I think I will wait to next summer.

i say go for. it'll only cause damage if you don't do regular deep-conditioners, daily moisturizers, and take good care of it. i'm sure you know how to do that.

^ I totally agree. SG, you have been taking GREAT care of your hair for years. It's in fantastic condition. I can understand your concern about this but you deserve to treat yourself! I don't have high lights, I have full blown jet black permanent hair dye, with a no-lye relaxer might I add. I don't experience any damage and my hair is past bra strap on its way to mid-back! Moisture is the key to combat the dryness that goes along with any chemicals like hair dye and of course relaxers which you already know. I STRONGLY believe that your beautiful hair is strong enough to withstand the high lights. Good luck!

Looks like the majority rules! These 3 ladies are right. I am Queen of Hi-lighting and I've kept my hair in pretty good condition. As long as you deep condition, your hair will do just fine. ;)

SG,
I guess I am going to have to agree with the other ladies.:) I know you have been wanting the highlights for a minute and it's not like you don't know how to take care of your hair already, so I don't foresee a few of them (highlights) posing that big of a problem for you.

I think where the damage comes in is where people are not as educated as they should be on how to care for them and you already know the key is EXTRA MOISTURE, EXTRA MOISTURE, EXTRA MOISTURE!!! My vote is to go for it too. It would be a nice change of pace for ya!

I love hilites too! I got them years ago, long before LHCF and my hair suffered, and they turned orange...ew. I'm thinking about getting them again in a few weeks. I had a consultation and everything, I asked what types of shampoos to use but I forgot to ask if you had to use special deep conditioners too. Does NE 1 know?

Well, you are certainly one to trust on this. Your color-treated hair is in flawless condition. :yep: I'll get high lights today only if you promise to move to Dallas and take care of my hair for me.

SG,
just make sure when they put the colour in and leave it they don't leave it too long, or fry your hair under the lamps too long. But highlights would look great on you.

Your hair is healthy so you should not have any problems.

I am afraid of color. Well I use to be when I relaxed. I followed the rule ...you color or relax but you don't do both. I knew my hair could not take both chemicals. I am natural and I plan to do highlights maybe next summer.

Wow. You really are the queen of highlighting! Your hair is gorgeous!

I'm scared of colouring my hair too.
