Clarify before trying a new product

I was noticing that sometimes people write off a conditioner as being no good when they first try it but later on they may try it again after using a clarifying shampoo they like the conditioner. Sometimes they change their mind because they decide to keep the conditioner in their hair for a different length of time or because they use it with or without heat.

Do you think that when we try new products we should always use a clarifying shampoo first? Should we not write it off until we experiment with using the product in different ways? Any thoughts?

I decided since my last discovery that before I try any new product I will clarify first. That's a good idea about experimenting with products different ways before writing it off!

Me too i.e. the garnier 3 min masque that was about to be added to my bad list. I didnt realize that i didnt clarify for two months b4 i tried this because the first time left my hair dull and kinda hard and i knew that this had to work because of all the rave reviews. I had a lot of product build up from before so voila i clarified and it gave the results that i had expected from the first time. I dont clarify each time but i do it often because im on a no poo regimen so i do it every 1.5-2 weeks.

I clarify before too especially if the conditioner is really thick. I will most likely start clarifying more because I want to give the CWC (condition-wash-condtion) another try at least for the winter.

I definitely always give my hair 3 or so consistent uses with a product before I draw a definitive conclusion on it. I think the reason is because what I'm looking for now with products is different - my focus is different. I am looking for product that IMPROVE the hair in earnest and not just make it feel good. I know which products will make my hair feel good immediately already, so these days I look for products that will really improve the quality and integrity of my hair for the longer haul. It takes a little time for me to see if a product is going to go int hat direction. I don't write a product off immediately unless it's just AWFUL on me the first time around...and not many spring to mind in that category.

I dont' always clarify - but I do that pretty frequently so I don't think it'd matter so much on me.

I definitely think it's a good idea to try a product more than one way when deciding if it works for you. When I first tried BreakFree I used it on wet hair and it was awful. Made my hair all hard

But I kept it and tried it at different places in my regimen and found that it works really well for me when my hair is almost dry. I love it now! So since then, I've always been into really experimenting with a product.

One day I may give LUST another try, for this very reason. I clarified the first time I used it (I had a sample size) and my hair was a tangled mess. I have never had a conditioner do that to my hair before. So I was like "good thing I only got a sample" and was done with it. Maybe if I don't follow the directions exactly, I can find some way to make it work for my hair. But because of the cost I wasn't willing to do any experimenting with it yet

For myself, I don't clairfy right before trying a product because I clarify every 2 weeks anyway and I never have product buildup because of that. I also gives products 2-3 tries before tossing. For example I tried Garnier Nutrisse the first time. Hated it. But I thought, maybe my hair was too tangled before I used it. The next time I tried it it was time to clarify anyway so I did that first and tried it. Horrible, left my hair dry and tangly. Well maybe I just needed more moisture because I had just clarified. Tried it a week later. My hair was moisturized, not tangled, recently but not just clarified before using. Gave it one last try. Horrible! Tossed it.

I agree, clarify first and then you can see the true results. I too hated the 3 minute masque until I clarified. After using it a second time I also got the expected results.

Thats a great idea, I normally clarify once a month but I think im going to start claryfying every other week really soon, I also clarify before 5-7 days before I relax my hair, Im starting to understand the importance of clarifying now

I alternate shampoos, conditioners and moisturizers and I always clarify before using a new set of products.

I have had my fair share of years of trying new products and right now I feel that I have found a range of products that both improve my hair and make it feel good instantly. Perhaps if I had thought about the idea you posed before hand, I would have saved a lot of money for both my friends and I (they take heed to my recommendations) and also might have not dismissed certain products which may have actually been beneficial if administered in the correct fashion!! Excellent idea....
