I live in NY and glycerin is a nono for me in summer and winter. Spring is a better time, likewise with fall, but even during those seasons it depends on the right time. So in all, I avoid glycerin in general unless it is really low on the product list.
If a dew point is too high or low, glycerin will expand the hair too much or dry it out respectively.
How I'm able to make glycerin work -- spritzing with water before and after using the glycerin product creates a barrier-- if the glycerin tries to pull moisture, it will pull from the water that you created the barrier with.
I typically avoid it in the summer so I don't look like a Q-tip. In the winter however it is giving me nice soft hair. I spritz my hair before and layer other product on top.
