I am SO mad right now. I deep conditioned my hair with cholesterol with aloe vera and used heat for like 30 minutes, thinking I was doing something good for my hair, but when I rinsed it out, my hair was severely tangled and felt like straw!

I thought the aloe vera would moisturize my hair!

What happened?? I did damage control by using kenra moisturizing conditioner, which softened my hair pretty nicely (and it smells good too

So I braided it to dry. But once it dried and I took it out of the braids, my hair STILL turned into a huge poofy mess! And my ends look like little afro puffs

Needless to say, I won't be doing THAT again! I saw a thread yesterday about people using honey in the cholesterol to make the hair softer...is this the same honey we eat? and how much do I use? I might try it again if the honey will keep my hair from drying out so badly.

Warning: if your natural with an already tight curl pattern that is prone to tangles try not using choleterol or any conditioner for that matter, with a heating cap. All it does is draw the hair up tighter and make it more tangled.(im speaking from my own past experience).

Also what cholesterol did you use? The one im using now doesn't require heat(queen helene) got a big old tub for $7.99. it says to leave on 2 minutes and rinse. the longest ive left it was for 1/2 hr with good results

i find that sometimes when i dont follow the directions on the back of certain product as directed i tend to get bad results. (ex. if a conditioner says to leave on for 5 minuts and i leave it on for an hour and/or apply heat when not required etc.) Did this cholesterol require heat?

also the honey thing is great. i like to add about a tablespoon to a big old scoop of cholesterol mix and apply. my hair comes out very soft and moisturized. i did this sunday morning and my hair still feels well conditioned and moisturized today wed night! i havent added anything to my hair since sun and my hair still feels good. try it you'll like the results

I agree with babyblue. When I began texturizing, applying heat to my conditioners only tangled up my hair badly. When I use cholesterol or any other conditioner, I leave it on for like an hour with a cap and no heat.

Babyblue, I don't really have much of a curl pattern right now as my hair is still mostly relaxed. I've only been transitioning for a month (past the time for my touch-up) From what I see with my new growth though, I have a loose curl pattern. It straightens very easily and mostly waves up. I used Lustrasilk Aloe vera formula. It said I could use it with or without heat and leave it on for 5 five minutes I think, I'll have to check the container. Maybe I left it on for too long. I'll try it with the honey and no heat next time and see how that works.

Thanks Miosy and Babyblue.

Using a heat with conditioners has become a lifesaver for my hair. I tend to keep my hair in 4 bantu knots when I do, though.

Aloe vera being a protein will bond to the hair and strengthen it to minimize breakage. But it won't make it soft or silky.

I was shocked to to use protein conditioners and feel my hair feel kind of tough after rinsing it out. Rinse with a dominican conditioner of something else for slip and detangling.

I always used heat with conditioners when I was natural and used to do it after texturizing. I NEVER experienced the issues people are discribing and my hair was very tightly coiled when natural. Never used aloe vera with heat though. I used to use cholestrol conditioners for years, but now I do not like them. After I stopped using them, my hair became more moisturized, so I don't think they're very moisturizing at all for me.
