Thanks Qt! No, I'd done it a gazillion times.. it's just I got a hold of someone's digital camera to post pics of it. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif I'm dying to see what my natural hair will look like in a braid out... it's never been done w/ natural hair.

Thanks for the compliments, ladies...

Allandra/ Adrienne: I'm in LOVE w/ Dudley's Total Control. That little 2oz. bottle goes a looong way!! I started using it after I saw the shine on someone else's hair. It's an amazing product that doesn't leave my hair feeling greasy, the way oil sheen does. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Laela,
Your braidout looks fantastic. What type of braids did you use? Cornrows or individuals? Can you explain your technique? Your straight bob looks nice and bouncy too!
TIA,
Jen

Thanks Jen! I braid the cornrows depending on how tight I want the curls or how long I want them to last. Bigger cornrows give a looser, wavier braidout. I normally do them in med. small, usu. 10 cornrows, like I'm wearing now.

This was my attempt at a dry braid out. By dry I mean, the hair was washed and air-dried then rewet w/ S Curl no drip and the wave gel, as opposed to just adding a moisturizer and braiding the freshly washed, sopping wet hair. Both give the same result, though...

I did the cornwrows.. about ten of them, and added the little black hair rubber band at the endz, adding a bit of oil before I curl the ends up and secure them with the hair band.. This is to keep the ends soft and to help them curl as well, otherwise, they'll look straight. After it dries, I put oil on my scalp, between the cornroows, then I use only my fingers (No COMB) and undo the braids and fluff the air to shape. It's very easy to shape the style when you use your open hands, palm up to push up against the endz. At night I use my fingers to divide the hair into four sections and do four big plaits so the hairstlye stays intact. In the a.m. I unfluff and spritz with Total Control (or any hair cuticle sealant) Kemi Oyl works perfectly for this as well.. but just a smidgeon. The style usually lasts two weeks, but I only wear it for a week.

Your braidout looks good. Do you find your braidouts come out better when you cornrow or when you do individual braids?

thanks, sweetcocoa! Definitely cornrows, because they are denser and add more volume.

Hi Patticake.. cute name! Don't worry.. practice makes perfect. And boy did I get lots of it. you wouldn't want to see my first effort. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif If yours doesn't come out well, you can always rewet the hair and rebraid it for the next day. The key is moisturizing, but not much, while wet and then oiling the endz (or using a cuticle sealant) after styling. Good products to put on the wet hair are Kemi Oyl, KeraCare moisturizer, which has jojoba. Also, make sure your braids are tight. It takes time to braid wet hair tight because that's when it can easily break. So make sure not to rush it. Alott time to do this style and each time you criss cross to make a braid, let your finger slide all the way to the endz and start at the base again.

My first braidout was done by a new stylist who suggested it after a relaxer touch up. Since I wasn't in on the style back then, I watched her the whole time and copied it at home.
If you don't like to braid or do cornrows, doing this style would make you like doing it after you admire the result of your work. If a lazy person like me can do it, you definitely can! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

NICE!!!

I must say this braid out looks quite natural and very nice. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, that's nice of you to say... I've never done the braid out natural, but I'd think it'll look like that. I've already started getting new growth, as you can tell from the pic.. so I'll wear this style a bit longer until I add my braids....
