Ceramic Iron

I am considering purchasing a cermaic iron to style my hair on days when I decide to where it down. Someone please share their knowledge on this tool and it's benefits over a regular curling iron. Also is their a particular make and model you recommend? Thanks in advance.

I bought a Conair ceramic flat iron for just $17.99 a couple of months ago and it leaves my hair smooth & shiny. My hair became fried whenever I would use my old straightener (Solid Gold brand) even though I applied heat-protectant cream on my hair prior to straightening.
