The Bun Master
Okay :look: , I like my new hair toy and all but it promises that the curls are 'locked in' until the next wash. I've had to recurl my hair every day! Am I not letting the rollers steam long enough on the base? They last all day, but by bedtime I gots nada. :ohwell:

FYI-- I'm using 6 of the jumbos, letting them steam for over 10 secs and leaving them in for about 8-10 mins. I get a nice bend like I wrapped it for about 8-10 hours.

Really? What do your curls look like FoxyB? Does it ever give you a tighter curl? I'm wondering if I use the large rollers if I can at least go two days. But I don't really tight curls either. :ohwell:

My curls do not last until the nest wash but they do last for a couple of days. Of course the curls get looser and looser. BTW, I add a tip of setting lotion in the water :) . Someone else on the board recommended that!

Setting lotion, eh? Is your hair 'comb-able' and soft when you use this method. I'm kinda setting lotion phobic, but who has time to curl their hair every freakin' day???

Yes it is....you can take a look at my album. When I say a tip of setting lotion I really mean a tip. Otherwise, the water will make alot of bubbles.

I use all jumbo rollers and i have never had a TIGHT curl.. I might need to use the smaller ones for that. I do get a bouncy curl (like a rollerset w/ large rollers) BUT once i comb it or sleep on it..my curls are a droopy and damn near straight.

Yup, same thing :ohwell: . Maybe that molecular action only works on Type 1-2 hair. My hair never held curl worth a darn anyway.

@Nice: Thx, I'll take a look.

They work on ALL hair types BUT if you have a lot of product on your hair you will get curls but it will not last. The Caruso setter works best on dry hair with very little or no product on it. When I do spiral curls, they last about 2 days. If I have oils or serum in my hair they won't last but a day and will appear droopy.

Also, you may have to play around with the amount of tension you use when you wrap your hair around them. This takes a bit of practice because if you roll too tight your curls will be tight. If you roll too loose you'll get soft waves but they may not last.

I agree with Honi....Caruso works best on clean hair. I usually use my Caruso rollers when I get a relaxer (I don't get a rollerset). I let my stylist dry my hair under a hooded dryer straight, then she blows it a little, trim and I go home and use the rollers :)

Mine last 2-3 days. I get the best results by leaving them on the steamer for only a few seconds (2-3) and then letting them stay in my hair for awhile (30-60 minutes). Also, the medium and the size under medium rollers work best.

I dont have a caruso roller set yet but I will be getting one when I take these braids out I have a question what do you ladies do to your hair at night while you sleep....Nice I love your pictures also

My hair was most certainly clean when I used them. I flat ironed, then put them in. I just used Lacio mixed w/a bit of Elucence and a heat protectant (since I used the iron). No oils though. I'll try the large and then the medium rollers for greater hold.

The other thing is that they make my ends reverta bit. Anyone else have this issue or am I taking them out too soon?

Thanks Caramelty :) ,

I wrap my hair using the half and half method (crosses in the back). I think that I have a picture of my hair a day after my caruso set and 4 days after the set. I will try to find the pictures.

Mine can last until my next wash (I wash every 3 days). I agree with Honi, it depends how much product is in the hair in the first place. The hair must be dry also, not damp or wet.

It also depends on how TIGHT the hair is rolled onto the rollers. The directions demonstrate how to get tighter, longlasting curls versus looser curls or just waves. The more tension, the tighter the curl and it will last.

Sengschick - if your ends are reverting, it means the extra moisture still needs to be shaken off the roller before using. As soon as you pull the steamed roller off, shake it a couple of times and then use it (it's in the manual). There should be no reverting of the hair with these rollers.

I just reread your post Honi and noticed you also mentioned the tension of the hair on rollers. This is correct.

when I use mine, my curls don't last long, but I will have a bend in my hair for 4 days or so. I use Keracare setting lotion first when drying my hair... then I steam the curlers for about 8 secs... put them in and DO NOT remove them until my hair (incl. the ends) are dry (for me...about 2 hours).

Maybe that is why it doesn't work for me. My hair is DAMP when i take out the rollers even when i leave the rollers in 20 minutes. My hair must be so porous that it just HOLDS the water.

I have to try it with all the tips you ladies suggested.

We must have the same hair type! You have every single issue I have w/these things!

@ Isis: I'll try shaking it off. I noticed the directions said that you might actually want to heat the roller cover, but I thought that might be overkill. I'm going to try the larger roller w/a bit more tension.

Does anyone roll up the entire length of their hair?

Remember, there is no heat.
The directions say to STEAM the roller cover or shield for 1 to 5 seconds. I've never do that but it could be helpful to some to make a tighter curl.

Dry hair should never be damp after using these rollers.

Okay, I'll give it another go. What size rollers did you use to get those waves/curls in your 2004 album? Those are beautiful! :yep:

Sometimes I do roll up the entire length. Other times I just roll up half the length. Depends on how much curl I want.

I remember back in the day when you could only get the Caruso's from the infomercial. It was suggested that to "speed" the "drying"/evaporation process to take a blow dryer and set it on cool and aim the air thru the hole at the bottom of the roller. It's supposed to make it set quicker.

Thank you Sengschick! I used the small and medium sized rollers and left them on very briefly. I rolled up my hair with a lot of tension also.

Remember ladies, if your rollers are so damp when you steam them that you need to shake them, you are either putting too much water in the steamer or you are steaming the rollers too long.

Letting the steamed [not wet] rollers stay in the hair til they are totally dry [about 30 to 40 minutes for my hair], is another key.

On my just past shoulder blade length hair, I use the large rollers with tighter tension, and if I put a satin bonnet on at night, I can keep loose curls for a couple of days.

I woke up exta early today so I went back to the Caruso system and decided I'd try a pincurl-ish set. I made this twist and then curled them up on the roller. When I did them tighter it came it out much better. I had to re-curl the ends though b/c they weren't curl enough or going the right way. But I think you are right LeoLady, my water thing is probably too full b/c my ends were moist and reverted a bit. :ohwell:

I just bought a caruso steam roller and i used it on my moms hair. I applied a dab of mango butter and some setting lotion and it took like 1hr for her hair to dry. which left me perplexed because i only bought them cause people said it took 5mins to set.
so i tried it on my hair but this time I didn't use the setting lotion and my hair was completley dry. and it only took like 7mins for my hair to dry.

so what i'm trying to say is.....maybe u shouldn't use any type of watery setting lotion before you rollerset because it's too much moisture to dry in such a short period of time.

well good luck experimenting with your setter. i can't wait to begin my experiments!!!!!!
